Why so much interest in the hybrid? Just curious. Lower hp. Is mpg difference that important to many? Or is it cost?
It's the first hybrid priced under It's ice counterpart. Hybrids would be everywhere if they didn't price them so high.

I'm a Realtor. For me this truck fits my needs perfectly. I have a CJ7 and Toyota Tundra, both great vehicles. Also a old Prius my daughter currently takes to school. I need a dependable Truck that looks sharp for my business, most of my driving is in town showing homes and putting up signs. In the last 19 years the Tundra has never had a trailer hooked up and I can only remember 1 time I wished for more room in the bed. The Mav hybrid for me is a perfect fit. If my needs change in the future then I will look for something that fits those needs.

Only think about the Mav I would like better is if it was a plug in hybrid with 50-75 mile range on battery alone. We have solar panels so 90% of my fuel cost would be free.

I'm coming from a 2006 Honda Civic. I live in a city and haven't really ever felt like I needed AWD or towing capability, but I have needed more space for moving things, home Depot runs, road trips etc. The Civic was perfect except for the space. This is an upgrade in every way. I'm excited to be able to get full size plywood home without having to cut it at the store.

My commute is about 5 miles each way, all city, zero highway. I'll be able to go over a month with one tank of gas.

And it was cheaper, which if we're being honest is the primary reason I even looked at this truck. Before the Maverick, trucks weren't even on my radar. To get the luxury packages with AWD and towing capability that I didn't need put it too far outside my price range.

I'll be replacing my 2013 Kia Forte commuter with 275k (probably +300k by the time I get my Maverick!). I get 33mpg now, but I'm thinking the hybrid will really shine in stop & go traffic. Plus we're selling our camper and old Tundra and I just can't live without a truck... without a large camper to pull this replaces two of our vehicles.

For me it was a combination of factors. I've lived in Chicago suburbia most of my adult life but travel to northern Wisconsin often.

- In the past I always purchased a higher HP option. I am a auto enthusiast who enjoyed quick acceleration. (ie that V6 Rav4 still is quite spire, but no speeding tix in 15 years)

- Plus over last 20 years I slowly rehabbed my grandfather's northern Wisconsin log house so I needed higher towing capacity. And until recently I had a pontoon boat to tow occasionally.

But my needs and wants are changing as I get closer to retirement.

- I don't use a vehicle's extra acceleration as much as I use to. Now I find myself focusing on improving my overall MPG per tank. I pace with traffic rather than trying to outrun it. And suburban traffic has become thicker by the year. (ie any hybrid's forte)

- The log house rehab is completed. Still need to occasionally tow things (a Harley, lawn tractor, etc) and the Hybrid can accomplish those tasks. While an AWD Hybrid would have been nice, I've learned THE DRIVER can compensate in most adverse weather on paved/gravel roads. In my northern travels I've seen dozens of 4WD/AWD vehicles spun off the road when their drivers thought they were invincible during/after a heavy snow storm.

For my needs the initial cost, fuel economy and functionality of a small bed for DIY trips seem to converge with the Maverick Hybrid. And the Lariat with Lux pkg plus was my sweet spot. Now the wait begins...

I would like to reverse the question on you; why do you care about horsepower on a commuter vehicle? The appeal of the mav is a cheap, efficient, and utilitarian vehicle. It is not a racecar. The appeal of the hybrid for me was to fill up at the pump less, have a comfortable vehicle, while still maintaining the utility of a bed for outdoor work (fishing equipment, yardwork, etc.). If I wanted to tow something huge where I needed more torque, I would have gotten a full size.
+1 Cheaper initial price, easily save $1k/yr on gas, likely lower insurance, highly likely cheaper maintenance and better reliability. It's not like this is a huge expense for us (the OTD cost of the truck is ~1 month our income), but why would I spend more for benefits I do not value? If it wasn't for the hybrid (and its cheap cost), I wouldn't even be considering a truck. As it is, our 150hp VW jetta has more than enough power than we've ever needed and the only thing I am "towing" is a few bikes on the hitch mount rack.

I feel no reason to have the fastest car/truck, so I'm more than happy with the hybrid performance. And have you seen the price of gas?? I drive 30 miles/day.....i know it's not much, but breaking down the numbers the Hybrid will save me $3/day. (I know it might not sound like much, but I'm a really cheap bastard.) On top of that, the maintenance schedule for the hybrid is phenomenal. The brakes tend to last REALLY long on a hybrid because the regenerative braking takes a lot of the workload, longer times between oil changes, etc..... it all adds up.

For me - it is both an MPG issue and an emissions issue. I like the idea of a truck - but have always shied away because of the MPG/emissions. I really like the idea of an environmentally responsible truck.

Someone finally mentioned the environment (y)

We spend Feb on the south Texas coast, it's not a bad drive BUT it's a shorter drive everyear 😱

I fear that my grandchildren WILL NOT be making the drive by the time they are my age 😰

I’m getting one to replace my Ford Focus. Mileage that is just as good or better, plus the utility of a truck. Can’t get any better. I have a Bronco coming to handle the towing I do and the 4wd needs.

It's the cheapest hybrid offering on the market and the cheapest double cab truck offering on the market and it gets better mpg than a car with the hauling utility of a compact SUV. It is checks all the boxes for most people.

I bought the Maverick to replace two vehicles. One was a 2001 Ford Mustang that I only drove on nice days and the other was a 2004 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab that I drove during the winter and days I didn't drive the Mustang. I wanted something I could drive year round and get good fuel mileage and still be able to haul garden mulch, bags of sand, etc. Still be able to tow my Polaris Jet Ski or my small trailer with my Four Wheeler in it. I only used the 4x4 in my Dakota a couple times during the winter and with all the Stability Control and ABS and such in the Maverick I don't really need AWD. The thought of the maintenance (Carbon Fouling) and such on the EcoBoost along with the 8 speed auto transmission just worried me. The simplicity of the E-CVT and no drive belt to replace as well as no external Alternator or Starter with the Hybrid sounded very appealing. The fuel mileage was another big thing for me, I drive about 50 miles round trip a day, mostly highway but some city driving the difference between 26-27 combined MPG for the EcoBoost and 36-37 combined MPG for the Hybrid just made the choice easy for me. Did I almost change to the EcoBoost to get it sooner? Yes. But I stuck with what I really wanted and finally got scheduled the end of October for a 12/20/21 build date. Should see my Hot Pepper Red XLT Hybrid middle-end of January.
