Hello everyone,

I followed the below (from manual) steps. The dial shifter is still locked into P when trying to perform step 4. It cannot go into neutral. Anyone know if I have to enable it somewhere?

Ford Maverick Cannot go into neutral (24 EB FX4) 1732330623133-4l

Thanks!

If you have powered your vehicle on and it won't shift out of park, you should call your dealership for repair.

Thanks! That is a great ideal. I was hoping there was a setting (like some other things) you'd have to enable before you use it, that I didn't know about.

Have you tried shifting all other gears, drive, reverse? Then try neutral. Kind of strange. How are you driving it around, in drive I assume? You have to go right past the "N" to drive it.

Ok, just tried mine. The instructions seem to not be correct. I tried neutral tow and it works
1. Turn on car (not just power, actually START it up)
2. Push "L" center button. The screen will tell you that you are in neutral mode 30 minutes (I think that was the time)

I think you had your vehicle just "turned to the on position" rather than had it running. Actually, does EB have the "L" in the center? I think it is the "M" or similar. Good luck!

:unsure:...Now that you mentioned that, maybe my understand of "temporary neutral mode" is wrong.
I thought "temporary neutral mode" is where you can get out of your vehicle and push it a few feet without turning on your engine.

In all my previous automatic vehicles, I can turn the key to "on" (without starting the engine), step and hold brake, shift into neutral, then push the vehicle.

So what's the difference between "temporary neutral mode" and "neutral tow" mode?

I believe temporary neutral mode is for times like going through an automatic car wash or something similar. Even just moving / pushing
car around, as in the garage. But I tried mine again just to be sure, and I did have to have the car in "Ready" (running mode). I tow my Mav behind our motorhome using "neutral tow mode" and you put it in "accessory" mode (where all the dash lights are lit up on the display) You can move car around in this mode also, without it actually "running". I have by accident gotten out of car without using park brake and it will roll away on you, so now wife and I hook up towbar first, then go through the procedure for neutral tow mode. We keep laminated instructions in the glove box. Attached the instructions, but they are also in the Ford Manual. Good luck!

How did you do that? Mine cannot do that when put into neutral while in accessory mode.

I reread my post and am thinking some of my information may be bogus or I misspoke (a term used all the time by a lying politician, sounds way better, eh?) I just went outside and tried this neutral thing one more time. I can do one the following three:

1. I have to actually "start" the truck (hybrid only starts the electric motor for the most part, there are a few exceptions) From here, I can put truck in neutral, but opening the door, puts truck automatically in Park.

2. Or, I can actually start the truck put truck in neutral, then hit the "L" in the center of knob. A popup on the screen says you get 30 minutes in this mode. I can then exit the truck and it will stay in neutral. I think this is for like one of those automatic car wash places where you can exit the truck while it gets towed along the track to the end.

3. Or, I can use the "Recreational Tow" instructions in the menu on the wheel and this will also allow for neutral for towing, but the truck display literally talks you through the procedures. This does in fact have the truck in neutral and it can "roll away" if not hooked up already to the tow bar. But, I think you won't even have this setting in your menu, as only the hybrids can be flat towed.

Sorry for the confusion I may have caused, my previous post sounded strange, like I may have had an adult beverage or three that evening! Let the beatings and floggings begin!

The OP has an EB, you have a hybrid, they work differently. EB does not have #3.
