Good question, the only difference in springs i know of between all the packages is that the fx4 package comes with mono tube rather than the dual tube setup that all the others have, not really sure on spring stiffness

I have the 4k on my Maverick, which requires the AWD. I looked at some pictures of the Maverick looked at by Motortrend and the springs on that truck look smaller in diameter than the springs on my truck.

Maybe someone can post a picture of a non-AWD Maverick spring to compare.

Good question! All I have ever heard was the different shocks on the fx4. Where’re those dealer peeps? Who can check the p/n for the springs?

I was told stiffer rear springs were part of the 4K tow package, and they were the same as the ones on the FX4 package at the dealer.

As an owner/driver I can’t imagine them being any softer on non fx4 or no 4k units. They feel pretty soft to me

It's a completely different rear end with AWD. Independent Rear Suspension vs. "twist beam". In the test reports that have pictures of the rear end you can easily see the springs with twist beam are far less robust than with IRS.

Yeah, not talking about FWD vs AWD. I know those are completely different. I'm specifically asking about the springs in AWD vs AWD 4k.

Don't remember seeing it in the literature but looking at parts site it may be different. It lists a level 1 and level 2 spring the level 2 is nearly a pound heavier. It doesn't list which goes with what package though.

I know this is kind of an old post but I thought I'd resurrect it to see if anyone has since been able to answer the question. I am interested because last May I purchased a new Lariat AWD with 4K tow pk and I really like the truck but I feel as though the ride is somewhat harsh and kind of jolting over bumps. I even put about 300 lbs in the back and lower my PSI to 33, 35 being the recommended. I know it's a truck but my 2005 GMC Sierra 1500 AWD that I traded in had a much better ride. So like greenweever, I am also wondering if the 4K tow pk has stiffer springs like the Tremor off road pk. Looking at the OEM parts list I see there are 2 different springs listed for the rear suspension and actually 3 different shocks. I don't know which would be the lighter though. So what I'm hoping to find out is if I could switch to a lighter rear spring or lighter springs all around with a different spring rate and also lighter shocks to get a better ride. So has anyone sorted any of this out?

Thanks
Gary

My part tags are still very legible on my FX4 4K. If someone with a "base" AWD model can supply the number from their spring tags, I'll be happy to share mine.

According to the information provided by Ford, the FX4 rear shocks are the only difference from the "base" and 4K AWD suspensions. They're monotube with a hydraulic bump stop incorporated, where the base & 4K AWD has twin-tube shock. But, you never know if they're supplying all of the information...

I just went out in the garage to see if the parts tags are still on the springs and they are, but I had the truck undercoated a couple of months ago and unfortunately there is just enough overspray on the tags that I can't read them.

But even if the springs are not stiffer, lighter valved shocks might help if that is what the basic Mavs without the 4K tow pk have.

I replaced my FX4/4K TOW springs with H/R lift springs and still would like to figure out the spring rate of the HR units compared to the stock ones I removed- Its been 2 years now though and I forgot about it - lol

I seem to recall that the Good-Win racing site mentions the stock spring rates vs their springs. You might check there.
