First post! Just sold our 2022 Lariat Powerboost and bought a used 2023 Maverick Tremor and would like to put some new tires on it.
I’d like to go as big as possible without causing issues on the stock setup.

Any opinions between these two sizes? Should I just look at the stock size at all? I don’t need anything too aggressive, would just like to get a little more clearance with the tire. I’m eyeing BFG Trail-Terrains. Any input would be appreciated.

I’ve got a 245/70 AT3W on stock hybrid suspension and it rubs the liner in the back at the pinch weld, I think you’d be fine.

I installed 245/65/17" on my Tremor. Seems like the preferred size.

I installed Yokohama Geolander 245/65/17 on my 22 EB FX4; they handle and look great. No rubs

Personally I’would not use the 65’s. I don’t understand the concept of the low profile tires on vehicles that have the possibility driving down a two track of dirt road. The rims are more susceptible to damage due to the condition of the road

you’re looking for 1) more ground clearance and 2) a “mild” tire with good road manners and decent mpg?

then why not put a 2” lift on it with the stock tires? The tremor has upgraded CV joints and are not known to be prone to failure like on the standard ecoboost and hybrid mavericks.

using 245/70 tires without lift will gain 0.75” of ground clearance and the larger, heavier tires will put as much, if not more strain on the drive train as a lift does.

using a 2” lift with stock tires will gain you a
Minimum of 1.5” of ground clearance, but hopefully you’d get the full advertised 2”.

Go with a 245-65 R And you might want to lift the front 1". It's only a 2.0 L I get through tough sand with these size tires there just enough with out bogging down problems. I do use my Tremor for what it was designed for so I tested many options.

Is there a tire you’ve liked the most? Have you tried a 245/70? Do you think I should still go with a 245/65 even if I’m looking at comparable weight tires to the OEMs in the 70 size? Thanks for your input.

I out performed my friends Tremor with his 70s. on the sand I am using Cooper Road + Trail 245/65. You will gain only a 1/2 (13mm) of height. The tire is redesign since Goodyear took over the company. It has a quiet ride and is soft as the Falken's. however a little higher in price. At 65 MPH you will be doing 66. No need to change any settings with For Scan. If you want a little more height for the looks than go with the 70s but they really aren't really suited for this vehicle and will put a little more load on the drive train especially off road and these vehicles aren't meant to be rock climbers. I understand the desire to put the beefier tires on for that cool look it's your call.:giggle:

I think you're mistaken. Neither tire being considered is low profile. One just has a little more sidewall than the other. 65 is relative to the width of the tread (which is the first number). i.e. a 245/65 will have more sidewall than a 225/65 tire.

This is interesting to hear. Was your friend having issues with bogging down? I ask because there are other variables that could also impact offroad performance. Driver experience and tread pattern come to mind. Tremor gearing should help offset the bigger tire but I'm not sure how much impact that would have.
