ford should have made the ECOBOOST as the standard engine and the Hybrid an option. if you want Maverick with an ECOBOOST i can show you 5 or 6 dealers in my area that you can get them (on the lot) at MSRP with no ADM. So pull up your panties and sit back for the wait and if it is as good as my Hybrid Escape I for one will be estatic. Otherwise look at the Santa Crux and get sone really shitty MPG from the baby El Camino. Cause it ain’t no truck.
Well they didn't. The hybrid is the standard engine, heavily promoted by Ford, and everyone here has a God given right to express concerns about their purchase.

For me Ford just made some odd decisions as far as the options go. Heated mirrors not being just standard, at least on the XLT, no push button start on the hybrid, no satellite radio except Lariat Lux, Sync 3 vs 4, heated seats not being standard on the base Lariat etc.

actually the base motor in Escape and Bronco Sport is the 1.5L Dragon. I know people that own each of these and tell me they get 30+ MPG combined! The 2.0L FWD Maverick gets 30MPG on hiway and like 26 MPG combined. I think CAFE standards were maybe #5 on list of reasons to build the Maverick and the other reasons are being borne out in sales numbers so far. Personally I wanted a compact truck like my old Rangers with some modern mechanicals and minimal nanny tech with good mileage, ample towing, comfortable interior and ride, low step in height for cab and bed- and I know there are lots of people just like me. Ford is filling a vacuum in this space now as well appealing to new demographics and providing a low cost entry level vehicle.
I never got 30 movs combined with that engine out of my escape. It got more like 26

Oddly enough, after seeing the Maverick and Santa Cruz in person, the Santa Cruz is more substantial.
Its roof, hood, and bed height are taller, making it seem bigger. (No lie. On paper they look similar, but the Maverick’s height numbers are not true)
The bed didn’t seem any smaller than maverick (maybe even felt larger due to its shape).

As to the Santa Cruz not being a truck: If it isn’t, then the Maverick isn’t either.
Both are vehicles with beds built off of SUV platforms with similar payload and somewhat similar towing abilities.

I still am curious about my Maverick build, but have to admit I like the overall larger size and height of the Santa Cruz. If only both had hybrids.
I too have sat in a SC and even did a lengthy wrote up on it. That bed is SHORT with a capital s. There had been zero argument that the mav kills it in cubic feet on the bed. Like my wife tells me, 6 inches IS A LOT

I disagree. The hybrid would always have been the hot seller because of fear for high gas prices.

Your thought process is reasonable. However, Ford Has made the commitment to “de incentivize “ IC engines. Just look at the new plants announced in Memphis and Louisville. IMO, ICE will be a specific use engine in the not to distant future.

Am having trouble visualizing sitting in an "SC" position and then living to write about it and then finding a bed low enough that I had to have both feet on it without the wife arguing while I killed six inches. What's it like to sit that way?

My XLT FX4 2.0L gets about 28 combined and highway is around 31. When I fill the truck up all the way I get 450 miles per tank which is plenty for me the Hybrid was never a consideration due to the lack of power that most of the reviewers talked about. Most the need to drive it in sport mode and that eco mode would make it had for the truck to get out of its own way. Now I do not know if those 2 thing are actually true or not but I wasn't gonna chance it and I am VERY pleased with my Maverick plus I live in Maine and winter is coming so that AWD is gonna be a better choice for me

So far the only mistake I see that Ford made, and it goes beyond the Maverick, is a disconnect between R&D/Marketing and Production/Procurement.
Eventually the former will figure out it’s pointless without the latter…
This.

That one reviewer who said the hybrid lacked power. We know about that guy.

Have you ever driven a base pickup from the 90s? The hybrid is basically a racecar in comparison.
