SAN ANTONIO — A 66 year old woman is dead in a fiery crash after crashing her truck into the back end of a big rig on the northeast side of town, police say. The truck burst into flames.
The crash shut down I-35 for more than five hours while officials worked to investigate the crash and clear the scene.
It happened around 11:11 p.m. on Monday night on I-35 North at O'Connor Road.

Interesting. Sorry he got a Darwin Award. How did the pre-collision assist not activate and stand on the brakes? Or was he going so fast that locking up the brakes was not enough to avoid the truck?

How does pre-collision assist with emergency braking factor into this type of crash?
I see XLT wheels on that Maverick which leads me to believe it did not have Adaptive Cruise Control and it may or may not have copilot 360.

If it doesn't have CP360, no automatic emergency braking (AEB).

if it has CP360 but not ACC, it only uses the forward facing camera (that's also used for lane keeping assist) and it needs visual cues to trigger AEB. it can trigger on vehicles or pedestrians.

if it has CP360 and ACC, it would use radar and the forward facing camera both to use visual cues and radar distance & approach speed to trigger AEB.

AEB can be disabled in the driver's instrument panel menu.

c'mon, man. this person may have been a member of MTC.

there is not enough information in the 2 videos linked to indicate how this happened, or show that the driver was being reckless. I get it that rear-end collisions are usually the fault of the person in the back, but it's a bit rash not to mention tasteless to assume they deserve a darwin award...

AEB is only active up to 75mph if no ACC is present.

66 year old female crashes into the back of a 18 wheeler.
It seems like it would be difficult to not see an 18-wheeler.
There are circumstances that could be out of her control or some within her control. That could have been the cause..
SHE may have may have gotten off of a long shift and was tired.
She may have had a medical episode.
She may have been looking at her phone.
She could have been under the influence.
Sadly it ended in her death.

My sympathies to her family.
Stay safe

I'm guessing the later. I've never had the pre-collision system active the brakes in any car I've driven. So it seems like it's the kind of system that only activates when you're close. At these speeds, it's too late.

Pre collision assist isn't the same as emergency braking.
The assist charges the brake system to help you brake faster.
Emergency braking is when the vehicle will stop for you.

Area under construction or just before that area. It was confusing enough prior to building the upper deck.
