I'm looking at replacing my damaged under carriage shield 2023 Maverick Lariat. I would like to get one that already has access to the oil filter and oil drain plug.
Would you go with a Poly like this.

Or a steel
rival?

🤔 The Rival aluminum shield will offer more centralized protection than the poly one.
Quite a difference in price between the two.
The decision really comes down to.
$$$$ and
Do you want to replace something that needs replacing with exactly what was there?

When I consider a tool that I haven't owned before, I usually buy the cheap one. If I break it, find that I need some additional features, or lose it and still need it, I'll buy a better one.

Your splash shield has already been damaged. I'd just take the opportunity to replace it with something better.

Heck, just the other day I was following a pickup towing a trailer on the freeway. A tire on the trailer had a delamination and the tread fell off. My truck has factory stamped steel skid plates. The tire tread made a bang on the engine skid plate, but no more damage than what was already there. The Honda Civic behind me wasn't so lucky. I saw plastic confetti in the sideview mirror.

I had the JCR Offroad protection installed on a standard XLT EB AWD (not FX4 or Tremor). I think it is poorly designed, and I plan on replacing it with the Rival.

I still have the OEM panel. Yet, it probably isn't worth shipping from Irvine, CA 92620.

The Rival aluminum skid plate has good reviews.

With your fabric one being damaged a heavier duty one would be a good idea so it does not end up damaged again.

Hey it's a small world. I'm also in Irvine and I also have a spare OEM plate because I got a rival.

The JCR Offroad engine cover is designed to accommodate all Maverick models. They didn't create a different one for the standard AWD, FX4, and Tremor. The bottom of the bumper for the FX4 and Tremor reaches farther back than the standard AWD. Thus, the bottom of the front bumper on my standard AWD is no longer attached to the undercarriage protection. There is a large gap between the front bumper and the beginning of the under-engine protection.

It's a stupid design, and I am looking forward to getting my Rival.

of course, when I started this thread, wouldn't you know, the Rival Maverick 2.0 is out of stock.

I put a Rival skid plate on my hybrid for greater protection from road debris. The factory plastic undertray provides almost no impact protection.

The Rival skid plate is made really well. I haven't changed the oil with it installed yet, so I can't comment on that.

I'm happy with my purchase (y)

Now, months after this thread was started...what's the verdict?
Can you do an oil change with the Rival installed?
