My odometer just turned 28K after 18 months, and I am still mostly delighted. The dashboard "guesstimater" says my lifetime average MPG is 47, but I think it's actually 44mpg. As I said, I had never owned a new car/vehicle before. The only possible exception would be that in 1984 I and her parents help me get a new Chevette for my wife. That lasted less that 2 years before we got rid of it- what a piece of crap, and the dealer was oh so delightful to deal with. So I was concerned. 18 months in and I am pleased to have no problems with the truck (yes, it's a truck! I've had 11 of them so I ought to know!).
Fuel econmy is my favorite feature. If I'd driven my '07 Tacoma 4x4 4-door 28,000 miles, at 17mpg (empty with a tailwind) I would have used 1650 gallons of fuel and generated 32,000 pounds of CO2. At $3 per gallon, it would have cost almost $5K. Instead I paid about $2K. I also generated almost 20,000 pounds less CO2 than the Taco.
Tacoma 4x4 V6
17mpgx28K miles- 1647 gallons
1647 gallons of gas CO2- 32,000
$4,941 cost of fuel
Maverick Hybrid
42mpgx28K= 666 gallons
666 gallons of gas CO2- 12,933 pounds
$1,998 cost of fuel
My continuing "frustrations" are the recalls the dealer have trouble dealing with. Sometimes when I shut the truck off and open the door, the horn double-honks though mostly it doesn't. This is especially enjoyable at 5am. The display is too damned small. Since it mostly ran on it's battery, I got used to believing my Volt (PHEV) computer regarding oil life remaining. Continuing that habit, I started using the Mav computer for oil life remaining. Next thing I new, I had 40% life remaining at 10K miles..... I got the oil changed anyway. It's all synthetic, right? That's about all. I am still a little irritated I had to pay $5K for an XLT to get cruise control when I ordered the XLT in 2021, but it came with the XL in 2023 to which model year they converted my order. I might have saved $5K.
So far, so good. For the last few months, I noticed the dealer usually has at least 1 Mav on the lot. In the past the only Maverick on the lot was one waiting for it's new owner. I've hauled 1500 pounds of lumber, towed 1600 pounds of bush hog and trailer, loaded it with firewood and brush and it does everything I ask it to do. I have a new bedliner at the dealer, and when It's installed, I'll be hauling gravel too! The Mav is the first vehicle to get me to stop driving the Volt (and the Chevy dealer, he helped too but that's another story). My local Ford dealer has been pretty good to work with.
Me and Goose (the Maverick- and Top Gun fans?) are very happy together.
