Really starting to regret my purchase. I have a 2023 Hybrid XLT and am having to continuously jump it. A little over a year old and I can't trust it to start. I have an appointment scheduled with the dealer on 9/9/24 but thought I would describe my issues and see if anyone has any suggestions or words of encouragement before I give up.

Picked up the truck in March 2023 and loved every second of it until around November/December of 2023.
I started getting the low power mode/deep sleep messages around then and sometimes my interior lighting would not come on. Didn't really think anything of it and thought maybe the cold temps had something to do with it.

Then in Feb. 2024 I woke up one morning to the truck being completely dead. I have a jump pack and I jumped it and immediately took it to the dealer to see what was up. They tested the battery said it was fine and told me to drive it for longer periods. "Go on a roadtrip" the service lady said. About a week went by and it died again. I bought a charger and charged it up and did the bms reset thing I saw on here somewhere and that seemed to fix it for the next several months. I also turned off the wifi thinking that might have had something to do with it.

July 2024 about a week after getting back from a big 1000+ mile road trip the low power mode/deep sleep messages returned. I charged the battery thinking this would fix it again. And it did for like a week and then died again. No matter how far I drive I can never get it to charge normally. I would charge it manually for a weekend and then 2 days later the deep sleep/no interior light issue would return. Then by the end of the week it will start dieing again. It was getting so bad that I had to jump it 3 times in one day just to get to and from work. This was the first week of August.

On 8/9/24, I contacted Ford directly and was told to make an appointment with the dealer and call them with my case number. I called my dealer and was told to bring it in and have them test the battery again when I got a chance and I made an appointment for the earliest date they had available which is 9/9/24. I just got back from taking it to the dealership as it had died again yesterday and I had to jump it again this morning. Wouldn't you know it the battery tested good again this morning. They started to try the "are you driving it long enough crap again" because I have low mileage and I told them it doesn't seem to matter how long I drive it. They suggested I keep my appointment and that I have some type of parasitic draw on the battery.

So thats where I am at currently. I'll update after my appointment on 9/9 but I feel really defeated and sad because I have alway loved Ford and this is starting to make me regret my purchase.

Thanks so much. I will definitely pass this along to my service department.
He has been to dealer several times and they had Ford approve an unusual involved procedure which involved several days. Most are not willing to wait for something like this. It might give your dealer an insight of what might be done but most likely you will have to get battery charged/replaced several times. I have 30 months on my hybrid lariat and have never had a no start happen. I do put a noco g5 maintainer on it all I can for a week or ten days about every three months. I do so more readily when temps are below 50°F. Good luck on yours.

There's literally a couple hundred discussions on the forum about this problem. From what I've read, most people got a solution from replacing the stock Ford battery with a more reliable one. Apparently, many of the OEM batteries were subpar.

Since it doesn't seem to crop up each and every night, but even after a long drive that should be helpful - really try to think back to any different process that is done some nights before a day with issues.
I know, hard to remember what dinner was 2 days ago, but just in case you have sometime to pass on.
Like locked car with door lock not the fob.
Or came back later in evening unlocked truck, got something out, and locked back up.
Set the parking brake one night when normally not done.

That other thread issue with TCU being the problem shows it could start creeping in slowly I guess - would be nice if they could catch whatever module is issue now when infrequent, instead of huge draw every day causing massive headache.

If at all possible call for Ford roadside assistance instead of jumping it yourself, the bean counters will want the dealer to explain the cost. Worked for me in the past, new battery.

R & R the TCU. Remove and Replace TCU and performed PMI via Forscan. A quick lookup says programmable module installation.

For us old, ignorant guys: what the heck is the "TCU". Ok it is a control unit (probably), but which one?

I was only willing to wait because they gave me a 2024 Mach-e loaner, that was fun a.f.

Telematic Control Unit.

Basically the cell modem.

Probably pulling the fuse by the owner over time would have proved the same thing - or that's indeed what the tech did.

The problem is that even a different battery will start to show problems in the Mav hybrid, oftentimes after as little as 6-9 months. We put a Diehard in ours Oct 1st of last year after dealing with four Motorcraft batteries; even that was DOA at the dealership this past week after dealing with constant jump starting for a week, and Autozone replaced it. I will be pulling the fuse for the TCU as others have stated here when we pick up the truck today. The heck with Ford and their spying on our driving habits.

I don't get it as I have had no issues like that whatsoever (Knock on steel) and I do mostly short trips with occasional longer trips. There are some weeks when I drive one of my other vehicles and still no issues. Could it be climate as I live in a high desert? I do have a decent battery tester and my battery shows good although down about 45CCA's.

Does anyone have experience with using Optima yellow top batteries? In my C-Max hybrid I had the jump issue until I swapped in an Optima battery.

Looks like your 12V battery is toast. With the battery charging logic in the truck that shoots for 60-80% State of Charge on the battery, combined with a bad FLA (=chemistry) battery, you'll end up with this type of behavior.

Your truck not starting at all means the battery is totally done. Frequent "Deep Sleeps" are just the precursor to ultimately not starting.

Replace your battery with an AGM type battery (Group 140R). These work FAR better in these Hybrid vehicles. Group 140R is a straight drop-in replacement, just make sure you get an AGM type.
