Do you want a toy or a sweet daily driver?

If you're already willing to pay up for a Lariat, I would wait for any 2025. The price increase seems to add a lot of nicer tech for daily driving (RIP to the HVAC buttons, though).

I think it would only be worth going with a 22-24 if you intended to get an XL and do an absolutely wild custom build.

Edit: Based on your last comment, I'd wait for a 2025 to daily drive-- even if you don't get a Lobo.

So when you say well balanced daily, what options do you want/need? You could go ‘24 XL tow package for the added cooling and deeper gears and save yourself a few to several thousand dollars depending on what options you need.... The one part of the Lobo that appeals to me is the rear deferential, but I have to see how it’s programmed and if the front-rear bias of the awd changes. My last vehicle was rwd and had selectable awd. The awd didn’t wait for a slip to send power to the front, it did it based on % throttle and steer angle. My maverick seems to just wait for slip and/or go off throttle position. Personally if it had more rear bias that would be perfect for me.

Are you going for the look, or do you want true truck performance? You will NEVER be able to modify a 24' (unless you buy a Tremor and do stupid things to it) to equal the performance you'll get from a Lobo with the upgraded PTU and RDU.

Hard stop.

So, do you want the look? Or are you driving it?

If the look - stick with 24 and modify.

If you wish to drive it - 25 Lobo all day.

With auto-climate control the need for physical buttons is virtually nothing. Set it at your desired temp (for me 69-71) and forget it.

I don’t know. I’m sure Plenty of guys on here with their modded non Tremers would smoke a stock Lobo. I’m sure summer tires and atleast a tune would exceed a Lobo for a lot less.

in a straight line, of course.

once you bring cornering into the equation that's where the torque vectoring rear differential creates a massive advantage.

you definitely could not take a Ranger on the track, ever. the other issue with your plan is that if you want a fast Ranger for the street it is a huge mistake not to just start with the Raptor. The Explorer ST crowd has proven that the 3.0tt is capable of crazy numbers with only a E50 tune.

if you wanted to do a track day with a new Lobo:

1) new tires - I have yet to see a DOT R compound that fits, so probably this is a 245/50-19 summer tire. you could have the TireRack shave it before shipping, if you wanted. yes, they do that.

2) new brake pads - I would go extremely aggressive and just swap them before & after rather than trying a 'street' compound.

3) motul 660 brake fluid.

I think JB4 is going to be the first to support the new Maverick ecoboost. They were one of the first to support the '22, because they're an interceptor and they don't need to crack the ECU to reflash it. JB4 has E50 and E85 tunes on certain platforms that can actually support that from the factory. It'll be interesting to see what happens Spring - Summer next year with the new engine.
im running 245 45 falkens azenis very good on track .ebc brakes pads and aftermarket rotors . castrol brake fluid

Yep, you get it.

There is a reason the two trims that cost the most (Tremor and Lobo) are the ones with the upgraded PTU and RDU.

Ford is probably going to upset Lobo owners when they drop a Maverick ST with the 2.3L turbo.

nah. it'll be 45-48k and people will trade up again.

they've basically just told us we aren't getting a 2.3 for less than 42k.

From what I have seen and read, the Lobo is lowered 1" in the front and 1 1/2" in the rear. Compared to what others who have lowered theirs, that isn't low enough to get the cool look that I have seen.

Also, as others have mentioned, the Lobo does come with more suspension tuning than the stock Maverick. But I have seen some people in MaverickTruckClub do some really good suspension tuning on their own............with darn good results.

After having gone through the lowered (18" and bigger rims) stage with two other cars, my experience has been:

  • Curb rash on the rims, front side of air dam.
  • Lower front portion of my vehicles received a lot of sand/particle abrasion to the paint.
  • Parking lot bumper lockup under the front air dam.
  • Debri on the highway smashing into my front end (hammers, wood, tire chunks, things that you would normally drive over with no problem.
  • More screw and nail flat tires than with 17" or smaller rims (don't know why, but fatter, lower profile tires pick up nails and screws so much!
  • Rim fatigue. Tiny fractures in the steel spokes that develop into large cracks that eventually had to be sanded and welded.
  • Surprise pot holes that warped my expensive rims and put my car out of alignment
May I say, that the above crap gets EXPENSIVE to keep fixing. Yes, my 2006 Scion XB looked beautiful lowered with my 18" rims, but the maintenance to keep it up was expensive. But man.....................every time I see one of these Mavericks lowered.............it's like a virus, coming at me..............and I as I write this, I feel the infection setting in! I'm doomed to repeat this! LoL!

never curb rashed a wheel in my entire life and not about to start now. when you have the largest tire width a given wheel width supports, or near it, you actually have a lot of protection against scuffing on curbs.

255/55-18 on my stock 18x7 wheels. planning to install 245/50-19 on a Lobo 19x7 wheel.
