I have been lurking on these forums for several months and it was this place that convinced me to order my Maverick back on April 9th, 2024. I received it on July 27th, 2024 so a little less than four months is not bad. I do have a question about the remote start feature. This is what I have done and you will see my possible problem, if it is a problem. I have also tried to search here and online and did find some information but it wasn't too helpful. And some of the stuff it mentioned I checked already.

I used the Fordpass app to start the car the first time and the key fob to remote start the car the second time. It starts fine and runs with no problems. After a couple minutes both times I walked to the vehicle and the doors were locked, so I used the key fob to unlock the driver side door only the first time. The second time I used the key fob and unlocked all the doors. I then climbed into the vehicle and all that time it was running. I put the key in the ignition and turned it to the ON position and the engine then shut off. I can't imagine that is normal.

I have checked the battery which is putting out 12.5 volts when off, and it's 14.44 when it's being charged by the alternator. There are NO lights on the dashboard indicating a check engine light or any other issue. I have about a little more than a 1/4 tank of gas. The oil is full.

Question is am I doing something wrong with the remote start? Probably not, as the vehicle did start. Am I supposed to use the actual key to open the door and not press the button to unlock it? Is this normal behavior? Am I supposed to turn the key quickly which I believe would be two clicks? Someone suggested elsewhere it might be not enough gas in tank, but that makes no sense as vehicle runs and it only stops when I put key into on position.

Thanks for any help!!!!!!!!

I wonder if you need to have your foot on the brake pedal? The aftermarket command start on our '14 CRV is like that. I have to have the brake pressed slightly and then turn the ignition when it's "running under command start"

I should have put that in the post, I tried it with my foot on the brake and without. But I will try that again when I test it. It's just strange.

By this you mean you use the app to remote-start, and the fob to unlock, right? You don't need both to remote start.

If you use the app to remote start, it does not matter how many doors you unlock using the fob. You should be able to get in and turn the key to "on" and proceed, regardless.

Has it done this more than once? Could it have been coincidence that the engine had been running for its allotted time and shut off right as you were getting ready to take off?

No, I should clarify. The first time i had used the App to remote start. It ran for just like 2 minutes. After I put key in and engine stopped, I manually started it and went to my destination. After I was finished at the dog park I then used the key fob to remote start it to see if I did something wrong. It ran for only a minute or two. I then got in and once again minute I turned it to on the engine shut off.

I believe you can set the time you want it to run after you remote start the truck. Could the time be set to a low number of minutes?

It is set for 15 minutes. I tried it 3 more times since I first posted and it fires up (well one time it didn't go right away and that's because I had opened the hood and didn't close it tightly enough) but 3 times I remote started it with the key fob. Each time I got in and one time I pressed brake, the other times I didn't and wouldn't you know that it shut off the minute the key hit the ON position.

I will have the dealer look at it when I go for my oil change. I'll tell them to remote start it and see what happens. If they remote start it, put the key in and the engine shuts off when they hit the ON position, they'll know it's not working right. LOL!

Good thing is I can still use remote start, just have to turn key to ON position, then restart it when it shuts off. But I guess that's no different than the auto start/stop turning off engine and starting it up again. Although I disable it every time I get in truck.

I was going to ask about the duration setting next. Hmmm.

I guess my only other thought is how you got remote start on a keyfob at all, if you have an XLT. My 2023 XLT Lux definitely does not have it, but I know it can be added via an OEM accessory or an aftermarket module.

Granted, Ford has tweaked the standard/available equipment on these poor trucks so many times, I can not keep up. But if you really have the remote start "added on" to the truck, that is probably where the issue lies.

It came with the truck as far as I know. The day they dropped it off at the dealer I saw the keyfobs and they both had the little 2X symbol. I think it was part of the luxury package for the XLT for 2024. But I didn't order it specially. This is what mine look like. This is a stock photo, it's the same thing as mine, but it's not an actual photo of mine.

Do you have hybrid? If so, did the truck still drive after it shut off? My engine will run when I do remote start and sometimes turn off after I start it and go to full electric mode.

I got the remote start as part of the Lux package for my 2024.

Maybe the auto shutoff is cutting in?
That's a great thought! I will try it later and before putting key in ignition I'll disable the auto start/stop and see if that makes a difference. I'll post how it goes.

EDIT: I could not turn off the auto start stop button but I remote started it this time and put the key in and turned it and it worked. It kept running.

Don't know what I did. The other times I would put key in and click it to the ON position and that was it. This time I went a little further than the ON position, almost like I was going to start it again, but I let it go just before that and it kept running. Maybe that's the trick. I don't know...

I just used it on mine ('24 Hybrid XLT Lux). So I put the key in and start, and the AC turns off. The engine also turns off due to switching to battery power. Then the AC kicks in again. It could very well be the Auto-Stop/Start, though when using my other car's remote start (Corolla Cross), the engine does not shut off, and it also has an auto-stop/start function.
