Very nice. I'm thinking Ford decided to use the flat black appearance on the tailgate handle to help deter paint chipping or wearing from constant use.

What makes even less sense is the tailgate handle is the same part as the previous gen Ranger
I bought a PTM handle from a Ranger so it didn’t have to be sanded smooth

I sprayed them with PPG paint had a pint of each made up….
DBC w/2021 clear ? Just an FYI you can have 4oz mixed at a time so you don't have to spend the money. I keep different color ground coats around to reduce the amount of paint I need. Nice job looks great

Ah, so actual paint spray gun. I was wondering how you got a rattle can to look so good 😄

Wanted to paint match my tailgate handle from day one didn’t understand why Ford would just do the door hangles on the Lariat and not the tailgate… Anyway it’s done now and looks like it should have from the factory…

Picked up a new tailgate handle from one of the online ford parts dealers and took it apart the pivot pin was a PIA as they peened the end, but a pair of vise grips massaged it so to speak so it could be pulled out…

Once apart I prepared the handle and the base for paint even though it was new I cleaned it with some wax and grease remover then scuffed up the plastic with a medium scotch bright pad, cleaned again.. Applied some adhesion promoter then some medium gray primer. Shot 3 coats of azure gray and 3 coats of clear… Let the parts set for a few days then reassembled and installed on the truck…..

Even thought I bought my truck with the BAP trim package and like the looks of the emblems, I wanted to change the emblem and match some of the Carbonized Gray accents I have already added and will be adding to the truck so I picked up a used rear emblem including camera off of eBay to paint….

Wont go into details as we all have seen painted emblems….

Have also painted the grill emblem and grill bar Carbon Gray will post once they are installed… Want to keep it this way for now may switch back to the BAP emblems if I get tired of these…
Looks great!

Did you use the Ranger handle or smooth out a Maverick handle?
I bought a Maverick tailgate handle it was smooth as was the one that was on the truck from the factory…

None of the Mavericks I’ve ever seen had smooth handles
They all have texture….. textured plastic like the bed rails, rear bumper, front bumper….. unless this is a new development

Ford Maverick Paint matched tailgate handle and painted tailgate emblem IMG_3613

Here is a pic of my factory one on my 24 Maverick before I pulled it out and the one I bought was exactly the same…
This is the part # I ordered AB3Z-2143400-AC just checked the part number on the web and it says it also fits the 2019 and up Ranger as well.
Maybe they ran out of the textured ones when they were building my Maverick?? Or maybe the Lariats get a smooth handle and XL’s and XLT’s get textured don’t know, Also my truck has the BAP package?
