Ecoboost/4k/fx4 managed to get a hair over 36 mpg on a trip yesterday. Rehoboth beach DE to SEPA about 110 miles. Most of it is straight highway and most of it is fairly flat. Used CC extensively and used the switch rather than the pedal to tweak the speed - if you bump up with the switch it accelerates gradually and efficiently. This was on 87 octane.

My previous best was about 32 mpg but that was on a trip up to Syracuse, which goes through a lot of mountains.

Now this was kind of a unique case since there was very little stop and go on either end, but my daily commute is almost all stop and go and on some fill ups I average under 20 mpg. Nice to see how it could do under almost ideal conditions.

I get 35MPG on the backroads of NW WI. Not flat or straight, but what goes up must come down. Trick is to know the terrain allowing gravity and friction to augment the engine and brakes.

It's the stop and go that kills my mileage. There is one stretch where there is literally a stop sign every block for about a mile. Hard on the brake pads and rotors, too. The area is "dense suburban" meaning that every square inch of the county has a house on it, 1/4 acre at a time.

I could probably do better on the syracuse trip but it's almost 4 hours each way and I always end up just wanting to just get it over with, so my foot gets heavy.

I beleive it. We got 32mpg on one tank in Louisiana in a Tremor with a topper. That was going west into the wind. Lets just say I dont get anything like that on Maui. too much dirt road driving and steep hill climbs.

If you keep your speed to 70mph or less the ecoboost will give you very good highway fuel economy. I recently drove to a nearby town to visit a friend about 20 miles with the cruise on 70 and the a/c on. I had just slowed down to take the exit when I snapped this photo.

I can often get this economy on highway trips if the weather is not bad.

You should have bought a Hybrid. I average 41.3 mpg.

Since I have power hungry 2 way radio equipment in use the hybrid 12 volt electrical system cannot handle it.

The link doesn't work. What kind of equipment do you have? My hybrid has a 400W 120V inverter. Your radio needs more power than that?

My equipment requires 50 amps at 13.8 volts dc. The inverter has nothing to do with it.

While a hybrid could have suited me in terms of mileage, I wanted awd and 4k towing. I was also concerned about an untested drive train. But a hybrid is basically designed for my commute.

I definitely could have done better. I really wasn't trying all that hard to be honest. I didn't even realize it was doing that well until fairly late in the drive.

50 amps x 13.8 v = 690 watts. Holy cow, you’d need to be almost 10 feet from the antenna to keep your RF exposure down to a level that doesn’t cook your brain.

50 amps is a lot of juice.
