Here in SoCal I see very few Santa Cruz's. It just doesn't seem to have a truck vibe or utility even if it can tow more in its base form.

It's pretty much an "also ran" and not much of a truck, but more SUV with a bed.

The Maverick is literally a stretched Bronco Sport and Escape, so the exact same format - an SUV with a bed.

Much better bed shape and size. Santa Cruz is 4'3" at the bottom only.

I think it’s price. The base engine has less power and gets worse mpgs than the ecoboost. There isn’t a hybrid option either. So the Maverick is a better option than the base trims and at the price for the top trims you might as well look at the many mid size options out there.

Especially when the MPG is no better than the true mid size trucks out there.

Hyundai from the beginning marketed Santa Cruz as activity vehicle with truck like capabilities. Ford took a different path. Hyundai does not offer hybrid despite their hybrid powertrain being very good.
The only thing I miss from Santa Cruz is the long warranty. So I purchased one from Granger.

Here in Illinois I'm starting to see more & more Mavericks on the road. I hardly see any Santa Cruz unless they are in the Hyundai lot.
