Let's see, a non-turbocharged, non-direct injection engine in the hybrid - shouldn't need a catch can IMO.

Not asking if it should need one, just want to know if anyone has done it

Never said it was needed but being there is an internal combustion engine as part of the hybrid powertrain was wondering if anyone tried or did install one and if they did what kinda gunk did they get in it.

The primary justification for installing a catch can is because the Ecoboost is a direct injection engine. That means the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber.

This is in contrast to a manifold injection engine. In a manifold injection engine the fuel is often injected near the valve.

When the fuel is injected near the valve it acts as a solvent, cleaning as it runs. This is slightly less efficient since not all the fuel will combust. But it's cleaner for the valves because the fuel is acting in that capacity.

With a direct injection engine the valves do not get cleaned by the fuel as the engine runs so they can get buildup.

Thus the catch can is specifically installed to reduce containments on the valves. There would be basically no purpose to install one on the hybrid engine because the fuel itself is cleaning the valves.

I got chastised on here recently for asking a question about the green breakin oil.all I was looking for was some answers like you and I got accused of being a " troll". Guess there's some ornery people on this site 😆

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but my understanding is the 2.5L Atkinson Cycle engine used in the Mav hybrid does not use Gas Direct Injection, GDI, as found in the Mav 2.0L. Therefore, there is no similar issue with oil to catch.
Edit: To be more specific, the 2.5L uses Sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection. Thus it does not have the same coking, carbon buildup or whatever you want to call it issue as the 2.0L EB with GDI. The 2.0L is still a great engine, it just requires special service to remove the carbon.

Gimme a break dude. You are so full of it.

Nobody accused OP of anything and nobody "chastised" them either.

Find your purpose for being here, because it's currently trolling and nothing else. Even more example by the way you posted here. Grow up.

He didn't say OP was accused or chastised of anything, he said HE was.

You're proving his point - there are some ornery people on this site.

I never said that's what he said. His association with his own posting methodology and this thread here are misguided and incorrect - and not at ALL related. Stop feeding the trolls. The "woe is me send me pitty" is not warranted. When I get PM's thanking me for calling it what it is, I'd say it's warranted to be "ornery". Let's keep the community troll free please. And technically, isn't your post equally as combative? Moving on...

Thread officially derailed because of it too. OP has their answer.

Correct. I had the Atkinson Direct Injection in my 2015 Prius. I installed the catch can for this reason. Unless someone here has heard differently about the Maverick hybrid engine, I don't plan on installing the catch can system in my truck.
