Wait mavericks and focus track cars? Did we just become best friends?
Man I really like both the rigs in your picture. If or when you get it finished. You have an open invite to a track day with me.
Absolutely! This one is my RWD Swap Focus. I also have an 02 SVT that I do SCCA racing with, and we're doing an AWD swap on my Wife's 07 ZX5

The equipment and people in the truck do not count towards your 4K tow limit. You might have been over on payload but you didn't state what the added weight was.
My trailer weighs 1100lbs, the car is about 2600lbs. There was probably about 400lbs of car parts inside of it lol

How much HP and Torque did the Maverick's 'tune' add ?

Why wasn't the Focus RS used ... tracked ??

What is the wheel (rim) size and Tire Size ???

Questions, Questions, Questions.

=====

Gingerman ... eats brakes.

Grattan ... was originally a "ÂĽ mile drag strip, hence the long front straight ... . Its "toilet bowl" is a mini NĂĽrburgring's Kleines Karussell (the second one) ... .

Lincoln LS ... as was said by many ...
"if Ford had put Brembo calipers on it and a 6-speed manual ... who'd ever buy a BMW ?!"

I don’t use the rs much for that or my gt500 as consumables are so much more than my Mazda. I also don’t trust myself with 528whp on the track. Same reason I towed with my maverick instead of my 23 -150.
Tires are 265 rugged treks. 18” rims
Tune added a decent amount but I’d have to look that up.

What is the worst that could happen?

And yet that truck was easily rated for that load safely.
Thanks for proving my point. Safe driving and know how is far better than just the tow capacity recommendation.

You still go? It’s a lot of fun. Hoping to hit road America later next month before a weekend at gratten.

Thank you for answering my questions without me having to ask. I have a 2.0 with the tow package and a 2020 Civic Type R that I would love to tow to Gingerman! Road America is my home track - less than an hour away.

Also are you planning on Road America May 1 or 23? I should be there both days.

Im shooting for the 23rd. But the group that is at gratten that weekend is my favorite group to run with so I may end up at gratten instead. I’ve found the group putting on the event is more important to me than the track.
They are very laid back. Inexpensive and allow you to take passengers, and split run groups.
So I make it a whole weekend. Take the kids and do camping with cars.
Would be cool to see you at gratten that weekend. Type r really shines at that track.
I’m currently shooting for both and would love to stretch out the rx8. It’s pretty underpowered till you get it in triple digit mpg then it seems to hold its own. Road America you can carry a ton of speed.

Exceeding the GCVWR is illegal, invalidates your insurance and invalidates any Ford Warranty. Not to mention any third party liability claims pursued in court. Your vehicle's kerb (sorry curb) weigh, what you can tow and what you can have as payload (including passengers but not gas) can never exceed your GCVWR.

Oh, and then there is tongue weight which counts as part off your vehicle payload.

That’s the key. One needs to be smart and know what they are doing. I’m old enough to remember when we had no choice but to tow larger loads with less than ideal conditions. That being said when they safety rate them they need and do use the lowest common denominator. IE DUMB DUMBS.
Also lots of other factors like acceleration are factored into sae which by no means creates unsafe conditions if you are not passing traffic.
So like most things in this world. One needs to use common sense and know what they are doing. I haul a lot all over and have for 20 years. I can assure you this setup is significantly more safe than the guy who had a 1 ton truck buys a 33’ camper and decides that because it’s writhing the limits and the law that he should and could drive 75mph on the highway. Well within safety limits and speed limits here but definitely not as safe as what I’m doing at 65mph.
Safety is all relative.
I get what you're saying, but these load limits are not generated from a dartboard. Those who designed and engineered these vehicles have much more than experience (as much as you may have) behind their recommendations. There is no "experience" or "common sense" column in the load capacity charts and if I find myself next to an overloaded vehicle on the highway, the last thing I'm thinking about is "gee, I hope he has at least 10 years of overload experience". Seems to me if one pushes past these limits you're rolling the dice with your safety and those on the road. No thanks.
By the way, there is speed limit for cars/trucks with trailers . . . it's 55, but as you have succinctly pointed out, few drivers obey it.
