Went out to the desert to help at an off road race , did a little exploring after by myself .
It Dunes nice without airing down at all , flexing good and rear clearance is way better with the flip up license plate and cut bumper.

Awesome photos. The cut bumper is a great upgrade for off roading. That looks like an interesting area.

That looks like a lot of fun. I wish I lived closer to that stuff. We do have a good set of dunes I’ll hit up this summer. But we mostly have mud here.

Wheeling alone?
Risky business
It is not like he is taking on the Rubicon alone. This is just some easy sand. And he is in a newer truck not something old and unreliable.
I have had more flat tires on the road than in my off-roading. And in both places I did the same thing, install the spare tire.

For you this may be risky as your Maverick is only 2 wheel drive and you may get stuck easily. But the OP was well within his skill set.

I have taken my Maverick through worse than a little sand. It is also not my preferred wheeling vehicle.
I still don't go alone. Bad things have happened to those that venture out alone.

I admire your bravery for cutting the bumper down like that. That's commitment. I don't think I'll be doing that since it would probably end up looking like I chewed it off with my teeth. Nice idea though for some enterprising aftermarket parts company. I'd be interested in a nice low profile bumper, if it adds significantly to the departure angle.

as a start how about a length of square tubing sitting atop of the hitch?
a good place to install license plate lights.

Going to rework whole receiver area , remove remainder of plastic and follow body line around sides and wrap under to center diff to make a departure skid plate mount too along with bash plate for diff.

I was alone on the mountain part but 5 miles over in the dry lake bed was the pits and start line for the race out there , so my friends were just a phone call and 10 minutes away!
I just went on a mellow ride .
Just locked in 4wd and rear locker ( more full time the better .) didn’t want to air down , so was at 35-36 psi whole time .
Had a compressor , jump box and basic recovery straps and shackles along with my off road tool kit and spares kit.
I have been going to this desert since I was 11 and grew up driving out here every 2 -4 weeks .Also have a 10 1/2 acre chunk of sand with my desert place north about 15 miles from here , has a 1 mile track on it .
If you add that with 10 years of co driving experience in various trucks and suvs in the off road racing I was involved with I have a decent sense( I like to think ) of what I can and can’t accomplish whilst alone . Definitely didn’t even push it yet . Once the chromoly subframe and bracing is done I will guarantee some airtime videos!

The bumper should have come cut down from the factory. This looks good.
