Some of my gearhead friends kind of belittle it. But they also complain about the mpg's of their full size trucks a lot. It is what it is... for a daily driver it makes WAY more sense. I've been taking mine with the family and ski gear on trips. Fits wet and muddy equipment in the bed just fine even 178cm skis, have to angle them properly. Way better than putting them in an suv with the seats down. Compared to a full size, it's all about the tradeoffs. Maverick wins for me.

I had a 1966 Chevy Corvair Corsa which I took to few local car shows/meets. Might been better received if at a VW or Porsche gathering.

Some “visitors“ at the show seem interested, they never heard of Corvairs. Asked lots of questions. The hot riders /gear heads not paid much attention.
Right? How can you go to a car show and not know what a Corvair is? I have run into people at car shows that didn't know they were looking at a 1972 Datsun 240Z! I love Corvairs!! They are cool looking!

I picked up a 1962 Jaguar Mark X long ago that came without an engine or transmission. The floors were rusted through, so I fixed all of that. Spare parts weren't readily available, and the price of a restored one is extremely low. So, I put a built 327 in it along with a new interior. None of the mods were irreversible so that the car could be restored at a future time.

It seemed to offend most folks in some way. The purists clutched their pearls because of the Chevy engine. I received lectures on proper restoration from Volkswagen Beetle owners. Only the street rodders seem to be interested in that car.

That Jag is baaaaaaaaaaaad looking! In my opinion, Jag's deserve a V8!! You did what I would have done! Did you upgrade the brakes all around?

Thank you. I upgraded the steering to a later model that ditched the older reciprocating ball assembly. I didn't upgrade the brakes as they were discs all around. I did replace all the suspension bushings, the shocks, etc.

Ford seemed to first have marketed the Mav as a chic car. Same goes for the Bronco sport. Most of the marketing was towards females. I went from Gen 2 Raptor to Bronco sport for work use and double duty off road vehicles to the point of getting two wheels off ground on Bronco sport but most of the big Bronco peeps won’t ever consider it a bronco. Sure, I have a big Bronco now and only got the sport as an experiment but it’s a capable suv. Didn‘t consider the Mav at first either so I've been stuck waiting on one 18 months now and might have to pass on first order cause dealer screwed up private offer.

As a owner of a 1947 Chevy Fleetmaster, a '16 Focus RS, and now a '24 XLT Tremor in SE Michigan... "gear heads" actually enjoy these cars. I put on shows in the SE Michigan area, I am a car selection committee member for a very large "prestigious" car show on Fathers day every year.. the people I'm surrounded by in the car world love seeing a new age "ranger/s10" from the 80's/90's making a comeback. They see the versitility in the hybrids being a garden house runner truck, but with the comfort of a regular car..

I think it may have to do with the crowd you are hanging around more than the vehicle itself being hated on.

When I was a teenager in the 80s, my father and I restored a 1951 Ford F1 pick up. It had a flathead V8 that made -- maybe -- 110 hp. It was considered light duty. But go to a car show with one and gearheads don't seem to mind.

During a recent trip thru AR, TN, KY, In and IL had numerous lifted diesels ‘roll coal’ when passing the Maverick. Admittedly I took pleasure in the fact they were subjecting the engine to excessive ring wear and piston scuff due to washing the oil film off the cylinder wall.

They'd still be jealous of your gas mileage. ;)
Just after I bought my Mav a guy bought a 1500 RAM. He was talking about getting 18mpg driving to work.
After I wrecked my previous car I had a 4x4 Ram 1500 Rebel rental for a week.
Coming from a Fiesta and getting 28mpg no matter how hard I drove it leaping into that giant gas sucking junkpile was a system shock. Driving it gently it was getting about 11mpg and if you hit the noisy pedal with anything heavier than a feather that sucker would get into the single digit mpg and stay there.
I went from $40/week on gas to about $92 for the week I had it even though I drove about 30% less.

You think they hate the Maverick.....roll in sporting a Mustang Mach-E and just watch the seething hate broil from within and the hateful gazes pass your way.
Just need a few upgrades on the turbo, air intake, exhaust and tune. Then tell th
Them to pull up and shut up. I’ve left a few big truck. from the jump to the next light. With the stock eco beast. The baby monster truck.

I live in Michigan...tons of car cruises, shows...when I go to them...NOT showing my maverick or anything, just driving it there and parking...Why oh why do all the gear heads HATE the maverick....? They all have the small peter syndrome and drive giant beefed up trucks...the haters are just ALL OVER against the maverick. I love the bugger, everything about it...but god almighty, the assholes out there that bad mouth it...they can't even contain their hatred in your presence. ok...rant over.
They hate it because it is what it is. It's a basic means of transportation that they can't modify! Hybrids have a eCVT, they have no idea what that is, the eco boast is a 4 cyl economy engine that needs no help from them to do it's job!
