I have to post a testimonial as to the quality of Maverick’s safety technology in an emergency incident last month as I was driving down a two-lane canyon road at night.

I crossed through the only signaled intersection in that canyon, when I realized the oncoming vehicle began to turn left (against their red turn light), right into me. No time to avoid them, I hit my brakes, and as I hear many times from others, it all took place in slow motion as I watched the vehicle collide into my driver’s front panel, bounced off and then slid along the side of my door and to the rear where they came to a stop. Ford’s emergency vehicle ‘stop’ technology came into play as I could have rolled off into the ravine had it not engaged. I only rolled about 10 feet before everything in the vehicle shut down and stopped it from progressing forward.

The truck activated the emergency services call, and I was instantly speaking with someone through the vehicle stating they have detected an emergency and asking me if I was ok. The emergency service contacted the highway patrol, asked if I needed an ambulance, and called for a tow truck. I was ok, as was the other driver, who came up to me still sitting in my Maverick, to see if I was ok. I refrained from lashing out at them, just wanted to make sure they were also unharmed.

The ‘funny’ part of the story is that the highway patrol officer just could not stop talking about how awesome my truck is, and how do I like it, and on and on…. Then the tow truck driver arrives, and what is the first thing out of his mouth? “Sir, that is one beautiful truck” … and he promised to take extra special care of it.

My beautiful truck will be in the repair shop for a month. I sent them ‘before’ pics as I had just taken some 1 month before the accident, showing “what it should look like”. There was not a single scratch or blemish. They are a reputable shop I have known for years, and they have vowed to bring it back to how it should be. In the meantime, I hate the 4-Runner rental I must drive. 19 MPG highway is obscene…

Thanks for posting. Hope everyone is okay. Best of luck on your repair. Driving the 4-runner will make you appreciate your Maverick that much more, once you get it back.

Glad no one was hurt. Make sure to negotiate a diminished value settlement with the insurance company. Best to get a third party estimate first.

What is this deminished value settlement you speak of?

A kickback in addition to fixing the truck to account for the value decrease caused by having an accident on the Carfax report.

Dang they really got ya with that one. Hope it comes out all right.

I gotta say it was probably all the bright emergency lights making the HPR do its brilliant orange shine. I love it when I walk away from the truck in one light and come back in another and its just wild looking.

Once again, one has to wonder what the other driver was thinking? Was he under the influence?
Another reason to have a dash cam as he could have claimed you were at fault.

Sorry to hear about the incident, but as has been stated may times before, it's more important that nobody was hurt. Thankfully it looks like none of the damage is truly structural -- but time will tell as looks can be deceiving.

It is funny, though, how a Maverick can still draw interest and questions from the community. A couple weeks ago I had a guy with a Tacoma asking me about mine.

Well, hopefully the shop will have you out of that 4Runner soon enough and back on your own four wheels.

It's things like this that make me want to drive my 5 ton military truck or one of my class 8 trucks as a daily. I did an over 700 mile trip yesterday and the level of stupidity on the roads is astonishing.
