Hi from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. I have a question about my 2023 Ford Maverick Hybrid. I recently took my vehicle to a Ford dealership due to a recall issue. The solution was a software upgrade. Approx a week later, my dashboard went haywire. A notification that my traction would require maintenance soon followed by a shift to low gear warning. I slowed down and pulled over and the truck shifted to park on its own. This same issue happened again after the first upgrade, and I returned it for a second upgrade. I noticed that the mpg went down from 33 mpg to 26 mpg immediately after the second incident. I was very happy with my Maverick for the first 9 months when my gas mileage averaged 33 mpg. But now I'm averaging 28 mpg, and I must switch to eco mode every time I turn on the vehicle. I have not changed my driving habits.

Is this a common issue or do the techs at my local dealership just don't know what they are doing. Do I need to replace the computer to accept the new software upgrades? Can someone please help me out with this?

Please advise. Thank you. Mar. 20, 2023

After which recall did this issue start ?
There is a turn signal one and instrument panel illumination one.

The recall was for the turn signal.

There is also the PCM/emissions recalibration recall which has been suspected of causing this sort of issue.

and I must switch to eco mode every time I turn on the vehicle.
This is stock behavior.

A lot of people reporting the same problems after the update. I would say this is becoming a common issue...

Just my thoughts, if when the Ford techs are doing these updates are the 12v batteries being charged by an external or a power supply from the Ford tech equipment. Is it possible the voltage is getting low and playing havoc with the electronics in the truck, especially with the hybrid.
If I remember correctly in the Forscan instructions it says that the ignition to be on and an auxillary 12v power supply, a charger, to be connected to the battery.
Just my thoughts Ken

Ken, thanks for your feedback.
I believe the techs had that issue because they replaced one of the batteries. I have scheduled a return to the shop and asked them to open a case with Ford. They will ask to see if they have experience other incidents where the mpg dropped after the software update. Based on all the other incidents which I have been reading, I believe the software updates will affect the mpg. In the meantime, I'm driving on Eco Mode to see if this improves the gas mileage.
I shall post the results of this investigation.
