Lariat headlights swap install onto XLT?

Has anyone swapped lariat headlights into an XL/XLT? I know I have to tap into the splice that sends the DRL circuit to the low beams and send it to the actual running lights on the lariat. I’m concerned you have to do a LIN when installing new headlights, has anyone done this and were you able to have the lights work without a lin?

I work at a ford dealer, doing a Lin would be easy, I’m just wondering if the module in the headlight would fail to communicate with the BCM since it technically is a different light, except the drl, which I would repin the circuit to get correct signal.

Do the swap and on the bcm enable all the drl functions . There are multiple for left and right lightsI believe after resetting info the module , you should be good.
a while back , fixing a wrecked xl , I bought a replacement lariat light by accident . Ended up buying the other light to match and got my money back selling the one good xl light.
So used forscan to enable and reset .
took me a couple try’s . There is probably someone better on forscan forum to explain a correct procedure. But dealer could do it too if you don’t have forscan .

I actually work at a dealer, and looking at the wiring diagrams, there is a dedicated DRL circuit out of the bcm for each headlight. They splice that circuit back into the low beam circuit right before the headlight connector. So my plan is to cut the DRL out of the splice, get a pin kit, and add the pin to the headlight connector. So the bcm shouldn’t know any different as voltage is still getting sent out, just being “rerouted”… in theory, the bcm shouldn’t know any better, but I was hoping to verify if someone has already done this.

Yes , you could hard wire , but plugging in , and doing some keystrokes will accomplish the same , plus vehicle may still recognize the difference.mine had drl faults until like the third try of changing functions and enabling.

Also if you work at a dealer fdrs should be able to enable the drl and acknowledge lights after just plugging the lariat lights into stock harness. There is no difference in front chassis wiring from xl to lariat.at least on the 22’ hybrid I did this to.

The 22 hybrid I bought for 7500 was hit , repaired and resold .
It’s funding my tremor prerunner build.

xl fleet truck , 6k miles with lariat headlights , sold!

Unfortunately FDRS isn’t as accepting as you’d think. It is limited to what that vehicle (vin specific) was equipped with from factory. You can enable dealer add-one but that’s about it. In that aspect, forscan is better. But I get what you’re saying. The diff with the lariat wiring is Pin 1 on each headlight connector (the number I can’t recall rn) where the upper DRL got a dedicated power source. XL/XLT harnesses have a splice that puts the DRL signal into the low beam circuit.

I will say, though, I find it pretty interesting you were able to enable the upper DRL’s without touching the wiring.

When you say you enabled all DRL settings, did you do that under “easy mode” of the bcm or did you have to change “as-built” data. Do you have any screenshots of what you did?

looking deeper, just changing power output from the connector isn’t all I should do. I need to change something so that instead of the low frequency of the turn signal turning on when unlocking, it lights up the DRL’s… did yours work like in this video?

Yes , and on leaving vehicle , stayed lit on walk away with other running lights ,rear and front markers .
it took 3 different times enabling under Bcm List of functions. 1st time I think I did just enable drl left and right with headlights. Then found other ones for with other light modes ( forgot what their called) their is 6 or 7 drl choices for each left and right and a few other functions as both I believe . I forget it was 6-7months ago .
didnt screenshot ,just got lucky when I was in a hurry .maybe will take a look at my tremor with for scan tomorrow . that laptop was acting up lastime I tried it on something.
will post some shots if I can
didnt write any code in I know that .

Hey man got a quick question. When you got the lariat lights to work, when your DRL’s were on, did your low beams illuminate as well as the upper portion, or just the upper portion as it should? I ordered lights, wired in the DRL circuit, and found the BCM still sends the DRL voltage through the low beam circuit, so even there is technically no DRL circuit connected to the XLT headlight, the low beams still illuminate. Not sure if that is due to bcm programming or the headlight indicating on the network it’s a low series.
I did go into the options as properly and setup all DRL options to be on, and changed “left/right low beam usage”
From “low beam and DRL” to “low beam only”. No change
