ADV MPG low on new lariat hybrid

Sorry if this has been asked already.
I picked up my truck yesterday. I have 76 miles on it. The adv. MPG shows only 29MPG and only 340 miles left on a full tank of gas.
Does it take a lot more mile driven to show true MPG? Is there a "learning period"?

I will creep up as you put more miles on it. I remember being disappointed with my 23 at first but it came up after after a while. I’m averaging 45 mpg now.and I’m happy.

I was able to actually follow my Maverick a bit in Mexico. As it was built, I tried to activate it in my FordPass. If you do that, it still requires someone sitting in the vehicle in MX to accept the activation. They did.
When I first was given access, I saw that the car was sitting in MX with 85 miles to empty.

Four days later, the truck had been driven only 1 more mile, but the DTE dropped to 64 miles to empty. Clearly, the truck sat idling quite a lot in those 4 days to drop the mileage without going very far. I lost access after that, as they did a master reset along with the Turn Signal adjustment.

When it finally arrived (with 80 miles on it!), after we drove it a bit with a full tank, the DTE has gone up, but is still in the 350 range for a full tank prediction. Not accurate, as we won't be sitting and idling the ICE.

My 2023 was just filled up (at 3000 miles) and showed a predicted DTE of 505 miles...HOWEVER, the mobile service guy performed 2 computer updates in my driveway (turn signal and BCM). Then it immediately dropped down and said 350 DTE. Since then, I've driven it about 140 miles and it shows 292 to empty (432 total). It will take a while to adjust to your driving and give you a more accurate DTE.

I did reset the Trip 1 mileage on the 2024 to not count those first 80 miles, as they do not even come close to reality of actually driving it.

Drive a hybrid like you fly a glider. Energy management is 100% key. People who drive them like they are racing everyone to the next light or on the highway will be disappointed in their mpg‘s. People who can “be the car” and use terrain, red lights, etc to their advantage will benefit substantially. Plus it’s a lot easier on the vehicle.

I learned in my Hybrid Escape that they are a little more sensitive than previous ICE vehicles. I had to teach myself to be gentle but it wasn't hard because the eCVT is actually pretty damn good in these Hybrids. You'll get used to it. Keep in mind it does better in city and warmer weather (not super warm though) and the sweet spot for MPG on the highway is usually around 60 depending on your location and roads. If it's cold the ICE will keep kicking on to maintain a temperature threshold and also when you need to use the heater more during winter. Most people report around the average MPG's or what you see on the window stickers so it's a good sign the yare fairly accurate. Anything extra is great.

I am still learning to drive my hybrid and only have about 800 miles on it. Today I did some short drives about town. Early in the morning with the ICE running and only going about 2 miles I only got in the mid 20s, I shopped for a couple of things and jumped in the truck for another couple of miles on nice flat terrain and I could not hear the ICE come on, THIS Trip mpg was 75 or so.

With the engine warmed up I can hit pretty high MPGs around town but those early cold morning runs are killers.

I did an afternoon run back to the store and then back to the house and again 45 or so there, 85 back. It is sort of downhill and with the engine all warmed up there is no need for the ICE to start up.

I love that game, and it is a game. Only short trips but the average is still pretty high compared to the Ranger I sold that the Maverick replaced.

The truck needs 200 to 250 miles to adjust.

When I added a trailer, my Miles to Empty went down gradually for the first 250 miles then leveled off.

When I dropped off the trailer, my Miles to Empty went up gradually for 250 miles, then leveled off.

If you never ever reset anything, the truck computer holds a maximum of 5000 miles of MPG history.

If you have a few crappy miles out of 5000, the "long term average" is barely going to move.

But if you do a reset every tank, a few crappy miles out of a few total miles will swing the values around a lot.

Mine did the same when I drove it away from the dealer. I ended up going over 600 miles on the first tank.

It will do this after every fillup when you hold down OK and reset the display MPG counter.

I'm on my 2nd full tank just filled it last night I'm getting 31.6 on the gage RN it's slowly creeping up the biggest things to put it in eco-mode I've noticed and to floor it to speed then let off tap breaks and ride electric as long as you can trying to keep the power meter under 10% i have the XLT hybrid

When it was warmer and before all the rain, I was getting a solid 44+mpg. When the weather turned colder [in SoCal that means night and morning lows in the 40's] and I use the seat heater more in the mornings, it dropped to 43.6-.8 mpg. This is to say, temperature affects mpg in a hybrid. Also, learn to use the "brake coach" display to get the maximum regenerative braking - charge the battery - which reduces the need for the ICE to kick in, increasing mpg.
