22’ Ecoboost. Had a coolant smell in cab couple of months ago, checked and coolant was low (below minimum when stopped or running) so filled it up. Now two months later it’s below minimum line again and I can faintly smell it in the engine bay. Searched for an hour but can not find a leak or residue anywhere.

Got scheduled for dealer for next Wednesday but any suggestions on where it might be leaking? Anyone else experiencing this?

Owned plenty of cars and on all of the newer ones coolant levels have never been an issue. My 70s - 90s cars were a little different story but these days it seems very unusual to lose coolant.

That much coolant that fast is most certainly a leak. The issue with finding a coolant leak is that it is 99% water and it instantly boils off if it hits a hot component.

Maybe they can do some sort of dye trace?

Just being able to put it up on a lift and look at it might be enough to find a cracked hose or loose fitting.

Odor inside the cab could indicate a heater core leak.

And check under the passenger mat and under the front of the passenger carpet if possible....

good luck

Refer to the "Resolved: The mystery of the disappearing coolant" thread from earlier.
Sorry, I'm not sure how to attach a link to another thread on this forum.

On my Tremor when I got home and raised hood there was little in the tank. Truck was not overheating so I drove back to dealer and when I got there it was at normal level. No answer on how could happen. So best guess on my part is air in system (driving it moved air from tank into somewhere else???). Have no clue!!!

Really only three possible places it can go. Into the cab, into the engine bay, or into the engine. For your sake OP I hope it's one of the first two not the last one.

Only way to find out its taking to a certified mechanic who owns a coolant presure test and look for the leak. In my opinion. But if its not missfire or any engine codes i wouldn't worried about it and just add coolant. Could have a pocket of air on the cooling system.

There’s also a heat exchanger somewhere in the exhaust which is known to leak.

Head gasket leak not uncommon.
Actually it is uncommon. If leaking head gasket was common among Maverick 2.0 it would.be all over here.

Have it at the dealer today for coolant system pressure test. I’m out of bumper to bumper warranty and while I’ve brought this up to them and they even filled it up last time those details weren’t in their system which could be an issue. They said they’d do the pressure test free of charge which is good. There was a smell in the cab on 2 occasions and you could smell it in the engine bay so hoping just a heater core leak or a hose or something. I often also hear a bubbling sound when turning it off and another Facebook group person posted they also hear this so not sure if that’s related.

Went from full (when they filled it up because it was below minimum) to below minimum in under 6 months. I was under 3/36 warranty both times I talked with them and when they filled it up but they didn’t take it into the shop so not sure if any repairs will be under warranty. If it’s anything inside the engine it’s covered by powertrain warranty but coolant stuff outside the block is only covered under 3/36 warranty.
