Trying to decide on a bed cover. I currently have a Retrax on a Frod F250 which I love. I’m just concerned about the canister taking up space in an already small bed. Would appreciate comments from those that have purchased a retractable cover. Likes and dislikes. Thanks,

As much as I like Retrax (I used to sell them and had one on my 2012 F-350), I wouldn't give up that much bed space on the Maverick. I went with a hard roll-up, the Truxedo Sentry. I still get the security of a hard cover, the same ease of operation, and access to the entire bed without losing any of it to a canister.

The only thing I gave up, relative to the Retrax, was the ability to have the cover only partially open and to lock it separately from the tailgate. The former isn't a big deal for me and the latter really isn't either since my tailgate locks automatically when I lock the truck.

I have an A.R.E. hard fold up. So far despite snow or rain it has done very well and stays dry. I like A.R.E. products despite the price. However just as important is who installs the cover and the guy I use is fantastic!

I have the Roll n Lock with T slot rails. I have the Rhino Rack system above for skis and bikes. It has the smallest canister and you really don’t lose that much space. For my use, I would not do it any other way.

If the cover is easy to remove when needed and it is not too heavy then it should be fine

Well if you love it on your F250 I'm sure you'll love it on the Maverick. No idea if you haul things a lot or not, if your concerned with the loss of space, there's options such as the bed extender or a hitch mounted bed extender. Follow your gut feeling, there's pro's and con's either way.

If you don't need a hard-cover, the Truxedo Pro X15 is great. It sits very low and rolls up easily. It only takes up a couple of inches when rolled and can be removed in about 5 seconds by pulling a single latch. The downside, other than it being a soft cover, is that you need to unlatch the end(very easy) before you close the tailgate.

If you don't use the space it takes up or don't bother you, it should work.

I just ordered the Roll-N-Lock M-Series XT as well, for exactly the reasons he stated. It has the smallest cannister of all the ones I looked at, and opens almost to the full opening length of the bed, so the amount of "lost" space is the most minimal of any of the retractable covers. I was deciding between this one and the Bak Revolver X4S, which is a hard rolling cover. The Bak would not have the canister, as it rolls up onto the top of the bed, but in the end I decided that the t-slots in the Roll-n-Lock were what I wanted for the ease of mounting racks and stuff. Anyways, those were my thoughts as I was in your position. Dunno if any of that helps. Good luck with your choice!

How much space does it take from the bed fully retracted? I've read some take up 12 inches of depth and hang down about the same amount.

I am out of town away from the Maverick this week. I will measure for you on Sunday evening or Monday.

I have the roll-n-lock installed on two Mavricks and love it. I had one installed on my F-150 for three years and loved it also. I have had one of the mavricks for a year and a half and the other one just got a couple weeks ago. The covers are water tight and do not take up much room andhave two intermediate opening positions that they can be opened to.
