DIY Ceramic Coatings for paint finish - recommendations?

Anybody have a recommendation on a good Ceramic DYI product I can use on my truck when I finally get it. Thank You in advance for your suggestions.

So far I’m enjoying our Gtechniq products. Lots of information and reviews online and on YouTube, including follow-up reviews later (1 year, 2 years, etc…).. just be aware a true ceramic coating is nothing like just putting some traditional wax (suntan lotion) or spray detailer on. There is quite a bit of prep work, and risks involved if you don’t wipe it off soon enough. Lots of information online about this too.

I used Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light topped EXOv5 on the main paintwork, their HALO product on my paint protection film installed on the fenders/hood/bumper/headlights. I also used their glass coating on the windshield and door mirrors (didn’t have enough to do all the glass).

Also after washes this is an excellent and highly rated product you can use alone or on top of csl. Turtle Wax ceramic was rated highest on project farm.

I'm very happy with Nexgen ceramic spray after a good clay bar cleaning. I treated my 2021 Avalon and 2018 F-150. My Maverick is scheduled for build January 15, and I will be giving it a ceramic coat when the weather becomes suitable.

Graphene is my choice. Very easy. Just follow directions.

I have put this Foretoo 10H ceramic/graphene on both of my Mavericks. It is super easy for a beginner and the price is very reasonable. Also, it did very well on a youtube comparison of about 20 different coatings. I believe it lasted much longer than some of the more expensive coatings.

I've used Adams Polishes graphene on all my cars for some time now. Easy to use as it's a one step application versus some that are multistep. Only issue I had on the Maverick was that it was hard to see the material flash as the car is white and this is the first white car I've ever owned but it didn't pose too much of a problem. This is also the only car I park outside and so far the coating has really helped all the overnight condensation sheet off every morning. Chemical Guys Hydro View is great for windows and Hydro Spin great for the wheels too.

You can get Adam's kit on Amazon for $120ish comes with the bottle, prep spray, applicators, etc. There's enough to do a couple of applications or cars in the bottle.

Ceramic is like the old polyglicoat. Sounds good but doesn’t really work because it’s not fail safe like they make it sound.

Quality ceramic coat is nothing like PGC from ~30 years ago.

No manufacturer of high quality CC states it’s ‘fail safe”, whatever that means. LOL

Then it’s not worth my money. I’m old school; first car was a 1969 Dodge Swinger. Used Turtle Wax then and still do (carnauba). Very easy now with machine: and quality and ease of application can’t be compared.

I also use a McGuire liquid detailer for quick shine after wash (if my back pain allows me too)

As someone who manages a Detail shop. The most important part of ceramic coating or graphene coating is the prep work. Make sure to clay bar and decontaminate everything first (even if the truck is brand new). Also look into getting a random orbital polisher and a good polish and make that paint look exactly how you want it to look before applying the product. After that just take your time. Do little bits at a time. Also if you’re doing it yourself, invest in a full kit (Like the one Adams Polishes sells). Your gunna want proper application equipment and good rags made for it. I’ve seen many people mess up a good application by using a rag that leaves tons of lint in the product behind. One last thing and this is very important, keep it somewhere safe and dry for at least 24 hours before exposing it to any wetness or water and let it fully cure for 2 weeks before washing your vehicle for the first time. Curing is so important, I’ve also seen good applications ruined by someone rushing the car back into the elements.
