I can veriffy that the Ford First Aid kit fits perfectly in there. And strangely the First Aid kit comes with a card with a QR code to pull up an install guide that basically says “find a secure spot to put your first aid kit” and gives you a few suggestions, both words and pictures.

That may be as close to an answer as we're going to get on the subject, failing input from a Ford company representative. So, originally it may have been intended to be an acoustical accoutrement but just happens to also be a perfect first-aid kit storage location. Can we call it case closed?

My guess is a thermal barrier for the electrical components located there. Maybe due to the power rear window or defrost unit.

I pulled the rear seat back down to check on the jack location and noticed a weird bulge on the back side of the seat back stuffed with felt like material. This has no obvious purpose. Anyone know what it's there for? Emergency pillow? There are no dents in it that would indicate that it's pressing against something on the rear wall. Near as I can tell the only thing in that area of the wall is a couple of wire bundles. I'm stumped.

You will find that right on the other side of that is the arm rest that can be folded down. What you are seeing here is the area that allows the arm rest to hinge and also acts as a stiffener for the seat back in the arm rest area when it is folded down.

That's assuming that what you are suggesting is that the padding on the back of the seat is protection from or for the arm rest hinge. It's been stated elsewhere in this thread that only the Lariat comes with the padding.

I got the jack is secured. My hunch sound dampener, for what though not sure. Maybe they think you’ll use the jack and not get it secured back in so this would help reduce noise you hear?

Im pretty sure its for the sub woofer that gets mounted there with the B&O sound system with some packages.

After looking at the kit I'll have to withdraw the winner bell. The road side kit is a little to big to fit, however, the first aid kit looks like it could be the perfect size.

In looking at the Build options, both kits can be added to XL, XLT and Lariat. It was mentioned that this pocket is only on Lariats, correct?

The fact that’s it’s only on the lariat and the placement, it has to be padding for the B&O system (whether you took the lux option or not, they wouldn’t remove it just because it’s not optioned…. Too cheap of a “part).
With the placement it appears to be right over the support brace assembly (that’s been a problem for my subwoofer box designs back there)…. Perfect place to try to dampen rattles. I also assume it pushes against the back wall, to help hold those assemblies in place since the seat kind of floats, even when it’s latched.

I personally suspect its to quiet the rear window motor, as it appears the top portion sits over/against it. It even looks like the sound padding they put under the carpet at the firewall, just not pressed together as flat. - The only sound you hear opening or closing the window is that of the sliding glass and when it hits the full open or full closed stops.

With the armrest down, it might be a loud motor, and this would dampen the sound.

That’s lariat extra special just for you soundproofing only on lariat to justify the extra $5000. That foam is not cheap you know….
