The high velocity air blower / dryer at an automated car wash inverted my hood!

Hood went from generally convex to generally concave under the air pressure from the blower.

It did "pop back" but this can't be good for the paint.

Anyone else ever see this?
Man the hood must be thin!

One more reason for me now to stay the hell out of car washes. I was thinking the touch less ones would not be too bad but hearing this, nope. Nada. Zip.

I have a monthly unlimited touchless car wash subscription, I go through at least 2-3 times a week...for 2 years now...neither or my 2 mavericks have had an issue...but I DO see the hood flexing a very little at the blower.

I had a first-gen Honda HR-V. I dented the hood while casually leaning on it, and I'm not a big guy. Even before that, I could see the sheet metal flutter slightly under the car wash blow dryers. There have also been reports of people denting the roof pillars while pressed against them to wax the roof.

It did "pop back" but this can't be good for the paint.
Paint is pretty flexible. Unless there's a hard crease in the metal, the paint will likely stay adhered.

Yep happened yesterday. On another note screw auto washes. Been through this one about 8 times all good no issues. This time not only did it push in my hood a bit too much, but it didn't even get the back end wet???? Front bumper was still dirty too. We have a good wash downtown where they pre clean and inspect it before it goes through and it's been there for many decades. I will go there until I get the solar system at my house hooked up to wash it at home. We don't have power to the carport and it's 1000 gal water tank just yet, so no pump going yet.

Ohh yeah and the worst part is I gave them a second chance and went through again(for free). Same thing and the truck was covered in black spots of ceramic coat that I really had to wet polish to get off. I ended up dumping a gallon of water over the truck and wiping down every panel. I'm not that type of guy to demand money back, so I just took my sweet time re cleaning the truck and audibly letting everyone else know how much it messed up. We are talking about a 18 dollar car wash here too.

Not a fan of the harsh chemicals at a touchless but would probably go into withdrawal if I had to skip the underbody spray in the salt season.
I select the minimal wash, basically a rinse and go, every time and fast walk past the blower.

There's touchless washes for that now too.

I think I average 4 washes a year. Kinda low on the priority list and waste of money and time to pay someone to do it.

I have so much crap aftermarket. I will never take it to a Car Wash. When I had a Hyundai Kona, it knocked off the shark fin😡
