Hey all! New here. ‘23 XLT Lux hybrid. Looking at the Falken WP Trails. Trying to decide between 225 and 235 in 65 r17. Would like to keep MPG’s high but would compromise if 235 truly improve trail/wet/snow performance. I know the 235s are ~5lbs heavier per tire. Any MPG or performance result anecdotes greatly appreciated.

Keep 225 for better snow traction (narrower tires are better in snow), slightly less weight and slightly better mileage. You don't want to increase the weight much on the Hybrid axles, which seem to be trouble-prone, anyway.

I have these tires on my Hybrid. They handle well on hills, curves, gravel, dirt & wet roads. I haven't tried them in snow yet, though. That being said, the ride is a bit more jarring than the OEM tires (yes, the air pressure is correct), and increases the rattles in what's already what I consider a rattle trap vehicle.

If I had it to do again, I would probably get the Michelin CrossClimate2 tires, instead of the WildPeak Trails.

What pressure have you landed on? Seen people playing in a pretty wide range.

I have them on 35 right now. I have run them as low as 31 (COLD).

I like these tires for handling. And road noise is not bad. It's the more jarring ride and accompanying cacophony of rattles in the dash & door panels (the OEM tires didn't have) that I do not like.

31 and the 235s go up to 36
The Cooper AT tire now owned by Goodyear might have the lightest weight of all the tires if that's your concern. I have the 235s Falkins on mine. And a 245-65-17 Cooper is rated at 34 Pounds.

Weight in and of itself isn’t the biggest concern but I see a lot of folks associate weight with MPG loss. How is your MPG with the 235s?

Right around 25 MPG s 50-50 Highway/ City I have 10 K on the Tremor now and this mileage has been consistent with The driving routine that I have.

You do know you're asking someone with the ecoboost AWD truck. Their MPGs will likely be much lower than your FWD Hybrid.

The 235 looks better and fills up the wheel well better. Mileage difference is minimal.

Why not go with the Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 235/65R17. They are only 31lbs.

Their bad rep from an issue Ford caused still seems to be sticking around, but I plan on swapping to firestone destination AT2s. 235/65r17 weigh 28lbs. Their reviews on tirerack and discount tire are great.

I had destination at's on my 94 ranger and they were way better than the goodyear wronglers that were on it.

I'm also debating on going to 235/70r17. A bit taller but skinnier than 245/65 everyone seems to gravitate to.
