Thought I would share the 2”x10” I stained and painted as my truck bed divider. There’s plenty of functional, sleek and barebones versions out there but I decided to make mine a touch more feminine. I did a charcoal stain, sketched out peonies (mom’s favorite flower), etched out (with Dremel), hand-painted the gold color inlay and then satin clear coated the board. 🤍

That's a lot of Dremel time. The results are truly striking. Kudos!

really nice work there.

do you sand the board down really well first? it looks like there are some rough spots not near your art. I understand these boards are ultimately going to get beat up anyway but if you were interested in at least initially having the stain go on a little more evenly you might have to do some serious sanding on home depot type 2 bys. Ask me how I know :cautious:

I’m sure your artistic accomplishment would be in demand from other Mavericks if you offered them for sale. Very tasteful. 👍

Thank you!

I sanded it from 120 down to 220 grit with an orbital palm sander and freehanded the curved corners before moving to dremel work. doing multiple coats of stain. I wanted to retain some transparency as I love the wood grain and wanted to highlight the textures and knots so I didn’t want a heavy deep stain.

The dremel work was done with a common dremel (would love to get the narrower attachment so it’s not so cumbersome) and experimented with a couple bits that my husband had in the kit. It was my first time using it so there was a tony bit of trial and error but I think it came out ok. The negative (dremeled out) spaces were painted gold with a paintbrush, surface re-sanded to remove any over spill of gold and then doing multiple coats of stain. I wanted to retain some transparency as I love the wood grain and wanted to highlight the textures and knots. A few coats of satin clear to seal it in and voila!

Oo.. nifty idea! I probably would’ve made it from wood and made the bottom glide across the truck bed. The possibilities are endless!

Makes sense. I just like to complain about home Depot lol!

I love what you did as well. I'm not much of an artist. You got me thinking. I may just do regular boss but burn them and seal it.
