Anyone paint steelies BLACK and install hubcaps???

I saw others recommend putting on at least four coats, so I did five for good measure. The four wheels used exactly three cans of Plasti Dip which cost me $22 from Menards. I put it on pretty thick so left 60 minutes between coats rather than the recommended 30 minutes. The hub caps cost $55 from Amazon so my total steelie extreme makeover was a mere $77...and I'm really pleased with how they turned out.

Cool. I picked up my XL Thursday & can't afford wheels. I can afford your steelie extreme makeover tho. Thanks for sharing the how to. Oh, how did you mask the tires?

I am NOT a fan of hubcaps, or black wheels in general, but I think this looks really really good on the truck.

I prefer the plastic cheapo beauty rings from Amazon to dress up the steelies.

Your idea was my weekend project! I used 5 coats of matte black Plasti Dip on each steelie. Hub caps are from Amazon.

I was looking at other posts with completely black rims, but after seeing this post, I think I may have changed my mind. I may be a hubcap man now! Those rims are added to my Amazon wish list titled "Maverick"

I like it. Ford wants to try and sell some old school versions of the Broncos. This is what is needed for the vibe. They should also resurrect the original Ford white. That was not white white it more of a cream white. That would really complete the look

Yup that's my plan for next year, too cold to paint the steelies at this time of year(i've only had my truck 3 weeks). I did get a price to powder coat.. and well yeah I can buy 2 sets of black one's for that price.

First I taped off the wheel, I found

the best is 2" Masking tape as I could put it behind the rim on the tire.

I did all the painting in the garage to keep things clean. The wheel covers can be bought from Amazon or Ebay it is a company in Miami. I found the best ring location for mounting was the split setting shown on the last picture. I had a set of these last 10 years on another car, but I did replace them after 5 years because of wear and fading.

When putting on these hubcaps, you need to apply pressure on 3 points, so use your hands and a knee. They pop on nice and tight this way.

note: the steel ring on the hubcap goes on the outside of the tire valve.

I like the look of the steelies. I put black wheel covers on my 22 XL ecoboost. A small part of the steelies can be seen, but i am ok with that. 60 bucks and a year later still happy.
