Did you use an impact wrench?
Just for another data point- my current black Gorilla lugs I have rotated tires 10 times on another vehicle I own, using an impact to loosen the lugs and spin them back on before torquing with a torque wrench. I use a protective socket like I posted earlier in this thread. No rust, just a little wear of the black finish on the sharp edges of the lugs- nothing noticable unless you are really looking for it. Probably could have minimized it going by hand only, but I don't consider it excessive wear.

I would bet most people probably don't rotate tires 10 times over the life of the vehicle (I do every 5k miles), so I'd say the Gorilla brand is good quality, in my opinion.

A friend just purchased his new Lariat Hybrid BAP and you guessed it, lugs were chrome/stainless and NOT black. Does not look good with black wheels.

OK, so my wheels (optional 17" AT wheels) are indeed 60 degree cone seat, so I found a set of black Gorilla lugs at CJ Pony Parts (a Mustang vendor) for $66, so I'm going this route.

I'll post pix when they come in, before/after.

(P/N in case anyone is interested: Gorilla 61148FSBC)
Wondering how you got those for $66. Shows $78.84 when I go to the CJ Pony site.
EDIT: Nevermind. I see they have a set with 20 pieces and another for 24pieces (for 6 lug truck wheels).

This is the best deal I have found on these Gorilla lugs:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/400490952507

$70 with free shipping isn't bad. But I found that when I added them to my watchlist and waited a couple days, the seller sent me a private offer for $62 shipped. I haven't received them yet, but seller has good feedback and has sold a lot of sets, so I feel confident they will be ok.

If you're looking for the set with the matching wheel locks, here they are from the same seller:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/181562260833

I didn't shop these around, but I have the same lugs and wheel locks on my other car and they are a perfect match, not like the factory/McGard style that stick out and look off. I would do the same thing, add to watchlist and wait a couple days to see if seller offers a discount, but probably even at $85 shipped it isn't bad for these. They are definitely better quality than the cheap no-names.

Yep, definitely shop around. I was able to find a set on eBay for $59.99.

That's the same place I linked to except 4 months ago. Looks like the price has gone up a little.
Yeah, I see now they are $69.99.

In my mind, lug nuts are something I'd pay a little more for a better, well known brand versus cheaper, no name brand ones of dubious metallurgy (aka chinesium).

I agree and just got them for $62 from the same seller by putting on my watchlist and waiting for a private offer. All things considered a few dollars more isn't bad.

Same for hybrid, just figure 100 ft lbs was enough
Maybe Go and retorque those to 150. Most others are 100. That’s what I thought till I looked it up. I will post some pics when I swap mine this week. I ordered a wheel socket and will try the dryer sheet idea.

Still trying to figure out how I won the lug nut lottery. Is there anyone else with stock black lug nuts? I can't be the only 1 😂. 🦄😂
