I went to wire in an extra 12v cigarette lighter power socket using the handy pigtail in the truck bed and neither side has power going to it. I checked the fuse, and the owners manual and all seems well (if I recall it was fuse 84 under the hood). I don’t want to make a special trip to the dealership for this until my next service, so I’m hoping that maybe someone could shed some light in the meantime, maybe I’m missing something. Has anyone else used the provided 12v pigtail in the bed to wire an accessory? For reference I did have the truck running, and I have no problems with the 400w outlet in the bed, I was charging a drill battery while I was trying to see if either side of the bed had 12v from the pigtail

A lot of people have used it with no problem. There is probably a connector loose or something. You will either have to start tracing wires or call the dealer.

Thanks for the reply, that confirms my thoughts. I was hoping that I missed somewhere that said maybe a fuse had to be added or something. Anywho I’ll get it checked at the dealership at the next service, thanks again for the confirmation

Just to confirm, if you are plugging a regular portable radio into the bed, you don’t need one of these pigtail things ?

I'm curious how you decided you were not getting 12v power. Did you connect the pigtail connector Ford provided and then run a meter across the leads or did you test your power directly into the socket?

Yep I used a multimeter and wasn’t getting any 12v out of the pigtail. Took it in to the dealership and it turned out to be a blown fuse. I checked all my fuses and couldn’t find one that was blown, so I’m assuming it’s on some oddball circuit.

Ohhhh. Those pesky but necessary fuses. They can be tough to track down. Glad it was nothing major. Thanks for getting back to me.

Did they give you any idea which blown fuse it was? I have the same issue with no power to the pigtail and also no blown fuses under the hood.

Thanks for the reply. I checked fuse 84, and all other 20a fuses under the hood. Those all looked good.
After I installed my bed lights, I went through the same issue!
...
solved it by turning the truck on and off! Didn't realize that the bed 12v pigtails would have ZERO power after they timeout and only gain power after the ignition is switched on again. Annoying and wasted a bit of my Saturday trying to verify my test light and multimeter were working! lol
