I found this under my dash. From what I've found on the internet, it is a tracking device. I unplugged it and wrapped it in aluminum foil. The dealer did not say anything about it.

Aren’t there tracking devices in all vehicles that have navigation?

Look it up. It is essentially an anti-theft device. If your dealer, (or Ford) had worries about potential theft, it would help them recover the vehicle. Some storage lots in Michigan have been burgled and new F-150s driven out the gate never to be seen again. Plug this gizmo in, and they can tell where they went. If quick enough, they might actually recover the trucks. So either the dealer or manufacturer put them in to help prevent theft loss.
Apparently it is available to retail customers at a fixed fee per month. You can search and read all you want.

I'd rip it out, trace the harness back and remove that. Put it in a box and ship it COD to your dealership.

Did you buy the truck outright or finance? If it's financed through Ford Credit, yeah it's going to have a GPS tracker, Ford credit requires it. If it's financed through someone else, they may also have required the dealer to install one. This has been a standard practice for many years now, makes repo jobs for non-payment a lot easier.

Doesn't the Mav come with a tracker. I can look mine up on Ford Pass and it shows where it is.

Not financed. I took it out and wrapped it in foil.

I believe the factory GPS and WIFI module are behind the back seat. A technician who works on this stuff did a post this past spring showing all the locations of the factory items. If I recall correctly they all have Ford Motor company stamps, even if from third parties. The item in this post appears to be something else, third party.

Did you add a security package? I would double check and make sure it's not something you paid for.

Tracker is for credit company. Check with dealer they may put it on automatically. Check your papers from purchase

This doesn't sound likely. Does it sound right that when you get to the finance office and make a decision to go with Ford Credit that they send a message to service to go install a tracker in the truck before you drive home...? I think it's more likely the dealer added this themselves so they could sell it as an additional security add-on. They are probably cheap, looks to be only two wires for power with tap-in connectors, no antenna or anything else to connect - and if you don't buy it they don't activate it. Why would Ford (or any manufacturer), who has build-in tracking for all of their vehicles, add or have a dealer add a third-party device to their electrical system? And if they did, wouldn't it makes sense to have it work at least as well as their own system with an antenna, etc.? Only other thing that seems likely is the dealer is doing their own Repos and they added it just in case.

If the financing is through Ford Credit, the dealer has nothing to do with it. Ford credit doesn't use the dealers for repo jobs. That's why you should only use a trusted bank/credit union or Ford, not through the dealership's own finance company.

I would agree that the dealer is not Repoing cars for Ford Credit. Which is why it is less likely that they would be installing tracking devices for Ford Credit. Especially since the vehicle can already be tracked by Ford. It seems far more likely this is an upsell job. Similar to Nitrogen in the tires or whatever. You don't want the super-duper security system, ok no problem...and they just don't activate the $20 box they installed with two tap-in connectors and double-sided tape.
