I can't vouch for a frontal collision. But I can guarantee that when a Hyundai Elantra hits you from behind at 90km/h (55mph) while you're completely stopped at a red light. It holds up quite nicely. I drove over 60kms back home after the collision at highway speed and nothing was wrong with the handling nor did it make any unusual sounds.
It'll still most likely be a write off though due to part shortages :(

A write off due to the bent "Frame rails" for lack of a better term.

Apparently, the body shop quotes $3000 to replace the rear subframe piece. So I'm assuming that's what the rails are. Not that bad really. So far, they can repair it but they're talking with the insurance company now because it could take up to 3-4 months to receive the parts and another 3-6 months for the repair as they're backed up in work and not enough workers.
So the insurance company would have to put me in a rental for another year and that would cost alot at $60/day lol.

The cost of replacing one rail is $22k, so that sounds like a hell of a deal.

Nope, it will be a write off as a "bent frame special" that trailer hitch is what caused your framerails to bend down on impact. It's way beefier than the steel its bolted to.

If it was me, I'd pull it out straight with a Car O Liner, replace the bent sheetmetal and keep driving it. Or splice in good new stub rail sections off new framerails and weld in an inner sleeve U channel to join them. The problem is, the insurance companies are reluctant to do that nowadays. They want to replace the entire rail. Back in the 1980s-2000s that was pretty common.

I wonder why they're even wasting their time to consider trying to fix it. I guess I'll find out soon haha. My truck's the next in line to be disassembled.

An A grade is good for such a small truck. Looks like some major whiplash, which is to be expected.
The body damage is not as severe as I would expect. I have a question, why didn’t the seatbelt lock the passenger against their seat? I had a friend killed because his seatbelt didn’t lock and he bounced his head off of the steering wheel and died instantly from the blow. His wifes locked and broke her collar bon. A far better outcome then dying.

You joke but I do kind of wonder if it will be another nail in the coffin of small vehicles. The IIHS's goal is having insurers have to payout less, but if they're going to ding over things like rear seat space in a crash it's just going to push manufacturers to make vehicles bigger and longer.
That argument has been floating for a long time. It started with the corvair and has never stopped. The smaller fuel efficient cars help the cafe ratings

No rear passengers for me. So technically my truck is "good".
