Anyone else having these weird issues recently? Within the last 5 days when I first plug my iPhone 13 in I get this weird location on google maps. I can’t navigate to anywhere on it until I open the app on my phone.

Then while playing Spotify the sound will randomly flip between sounding good to almost faded to the rear speakers and then back to normal. Then I’ll get the pop noise, and the music will cut out totally and then come back in 2 seconds. It’s really weird. For the longest time I used the USB-C jack but that’s seemed to be where I have the hardest time getting the apple CarPlay to fire up so I’ve switched back to the regular usb jack and that’s where I’ve been having the issues mentioned above.

My SOP is to start my truck, then attach my phone with the screen unlocked. I've had zero issues with the connection between the vehicle and CarPlay when I follow these steps. ...until yesterday.

I was in and out of my truck a number of times yesterday and the only way I could get google maps to show up on the screen was to pick up my phone and launch the google maps app after the phone was connected. Everything worked fine after that, but the extra step was a new wrinkle in the connectivity odyssey.

I don't use Spotify, so I don't have anything to contribute on that issue.

Yeah this has been happening to me with the phone already unlocked. If it’s locked it’s a 80/20 gamble with 20% of the time it will fire up Apple CarPlay while locked.

How long do you go without resetting your iPhones? I have an iPhone 7 running the latest version of iOS because I am cheapish. Anyway restarting you phone can resolve some issues.

Download the latest version of radio software.
Make sure your iPhone has the latest version.
Have the radio forget your iPhone.
Try different cables and make sure they are top quality cables not dime store checkout counter ones. I think dime stores are now dollar stores but you get my gist. :ROFLMAO:
Restart your phone.
Shut off truck.

Start the process over.
Good luck.

Weird. One of the few times Google doesn't have any relevant search results for something that is clearly on a Google Map. I Googled "st. joseph chipanjilo" and it reccomended "st. joseph chimpanzee" and had no good results for "st. joseph chipanjilo"

OMG!

I was just going to post about this.

YES YES YES

I did no phone update or truck update that I am aware of.

I "rebooted" everything and the issue remains. So Google and/or Apple did something without telling us.

I've had 100% reliability for the first year. Up until this week.

Ahh yes, how did I ever forget the famous st. joseph chipanjilo restaurant!

I think it might just be part of some mapping software starting up. I have two kids in elementary school and the "school bus tracker" often starts the GPS map in Africa and then quickly pans/scrolls over to my location. It might even start around the same spot as st. joseph chipanjilo......not kidding.......

On mine my "location" is always on a full blue screen, like middle of the ocean.

The google map pin for that restaurant is on the equator and looks to be on the prime meridian, i.e. it's GPS coordinates would be at or close to 0,0. (Looks like maybe it is @-0.7776385,-2.025536, i.e. pretty close to 0, 0, or at least the closest thing to 0,0 in Google maps).

Not sure how that Restaurant got those coordinates assigned to it, but (0,0) makes sense for a position fix for a GPS that is just starting up and doesn't know where it is yet...

I've definitely seen issues with all the mapping apps where sometimes they cannot read the GPS or the GPS is not working properly on my phone. You might try switching in and out of airplane mode to get things reset.

I had the exact same issue - that black image is the same as the one I have with that location. I have a ford fiesta and an iphone 14. Must be a Ford/apple issue.

Anyway after trying all sorts (un-syning phone, changing settings in googlemaps) I've finally got it to work again.

I simply deleted the google app on my phone including all data. Then reinstalled it. All my saved settings are still there from the cloud anyway, so is back to normal.

Hope this works for you too.

Generally speaking when we see CarPlay issues it is within CarPlay. Your car is really just a mirror. Always check for new software first, then do a restart on your phone. And, if using a cord always be sure to use an actual Apple cord. CarPlay moves a lot of data and it does not like many aftermarket cords. Also, why not using Apple maps? They are very good these days.

Me thinks Apple did something.
Or Google did something unwittingly.

Apple maps work fine automatically within CarPlay.

Google maps only work if I launch maps from the phone first. This is a new thing. Used to work automatically, perfectly for the past year.

I like Google Maps for one important reason: it keeps my zoom settings. 1 square mile, 2 square miles, 10 square miles, whatever I want. Apple doesn't.
