Excessive with the Hybrid, since the ICE hasn't gone near 5K on it when the ODO says 5K....Change the oil with a good quality synthetic every 5,000 miles...
I didn’t even consider a hybrid when I said that.Excessive with the Hybrid, since the ICE hasn't gone near 5K on it when the ODO says 5K.

Its more important to vary your speed and RPM, than it is to stay under whatever you think is too fast. You stated 75 mph to 85 mph - that's not break-in speed. Plus it is recommended that there be a good mix of low speed and mid speed. The manual quote says 'braking', tow and shifting - I was just copying it.
Not following break-in on every vehicle doesn't cause a problem but enough that it makes a difference. And it is not a wives tale. Remember reading the forums? They say every engine made is crap. Every transmission. Are you saying those people are wrong? Yes they are but it is just common sense to break-in a vehicle.
I just finished my 1k break-in , I plan on keeping my Maverick a long time so it makes sense , if for no other reason than the computer needs to have enough data collected to make adjustments to the truck, not to mention the mechanical parts that need to wear in. My Maverick only had 18 miles on it when I took delivery and when I first drove it the truck had a few quirks , these smoothed early in the break-in period . It's my understanding that the truck adjusts to your driving habits for better efficency .I know you will say breaking-in a vehicle doesn't matter but the Owner's Manual specifies:
Your vehicle requires a break-in period. For the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km), avoid driving at high speeds, heavy braking, aggressive shifting or using your vehicle to tow.
So if your engine or transmission develops problems later on ask yourself why you didn't follow the "required" break-in.
It's not so much the speed , it's bad to run at a constant speed for a long trip during the break in period. Thats probably why the mpg is not as good as it should be.You have to ask yourself what constitutes high speeds? I'm guessing Ford means speeds of 90-110 mph where you're basically redlining the engine. No way that high speed means like 70 or 80.
Yes, and I didn't expect MPG to be great. But it did pretty good considering. It's not so much the speed , it's bad to run at a constant speed for a long trip during the break in period. Thats probably why the mpg is not as good as it should be.
I see this is your first Hybrid, I'm in the same boat.I think the break in period is more important with the Hybrid than the EB ,since it is more complex .When you think about it the computer chooses when to run electric or Ice or both depending on ICE engine temperature , avaliable charge on the traction battery, amount of throttle applied ect, not to mention regenerative braking. So it's kind of Fly BY Wire and there is a learning curve for both the driver and vehicle. I think the system is amazing.Yes, and I didn't expect MPG to be great. But it did pretty good considering.
Yes, it's very seamless and refined feeling. I have not experienced anything funny or wonky yet.I see this is your first Hybrid, I'm in the same boat.I think the break in period is more important with the Hybrid than the EB ,since it is more complex .When you think about it the computer chooses when to run electric or Ice or both depending on ICE engine temperature , avaliable charge on the traction battery, amount of throttle applied ect, not to mention regenerative braking. So it's kind of Fly BY Wire and there is a learning curve for both the driver and vehicle. What about those who live in areas with steep inclines / declines, while those are good guidelines, speed and RPM's are very different things dependent on your transmission. I would say that driving speed limit or close to are nothing compared to racing to the next red light like many I see do. In my experience (another old fart).I know you will say breaking-in a vehicle doesn't matter but the Owner's Manual specifies:

Yes, I have 7 quills, and no damage at all. No blood or anything. I hope the little guy survived, and had a soft landing in the median. They way he shot off though, I'd say he had a 50/50 chance. At least my tires didn't roll over him. What an amazing trip! Absolutely breathtaking photos and a write up that make reading it a pleasure. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your experience with the club.
The porcupine encounter was both tragic and hilarious. Hopefully, a loss of a few quills was the only consequence of his taking on the Maverick.
We should all be so lucky!Yes, I have 7 quills, and no damage at all. No blood or anything. I hope the little guy survived, and had a soft landing in the median. They way he shot off though, I'd say he had a 50/50 chance. At least my tires didn't roll over him.
