Sad but also true.

I don't think this thread gets enough respect -- the porcupine story (with PICS!!) is phenomenal! Nice job.
I saved the best for last. If it wasn't for the quills and videos, I would've never known what it was that nudged the truck. As they say "when pigs fly" well Porcupine translates to Spine Pig. And he did fly. that 1/4 second of video out the back window shooting off like a rocket was an amazing catch. Glad I used the Car DVR.

Couldn't take many pictures because I was driving, and my wife loves to sleep on road trips. Gassed up at a Maverik station, which I never heard of before. But I thought it was fitting.

On the 5th day of owning my Hybrid, we took a 5 day trip. First we drove to Radica campers in Colorado to checkout the moonlander campers. We wanted to see if these units were feasible for the Maverick.

After a bit of measuring, we determined that for the camper to fit properly, it needed to be raised 2" from normal to clear the curved pieces on the front of the bed. We are not ready until spring, but if anybody wants one, they have all the measurements, and can fast track a build for you.

About 36mpg the first tank, with mostly 75 mph driving. Second tank with 80mph limits was mostly at 85mph. This brought actual hand calculated mpg down to 27. Noted to stay at 75 or below if you have the time. 3rd tank was at 37 mpg, and the 4th (mostly back highways) was showing 42.4 when we got home, with half a tank left. There was some beautiful skies, and scenery leaving Denver. Oh, and this driver who cut in front of a truck and almost got t-boned.

Ended up at a gas station named Maverik in a Maverick. Nice.
Beautiful photos of beautiful country. Now I do not have to take a vacation since I have seen all the beautiful sites LOL. Especially love the Maverick station. If they had one here, I would gas up there even if it cost more.

Thanks a million for posting. It was refreshing.
You stopped at a gas station named Maverik in a Maverick. What a coincidence.

Re earlier responses to your post Re ‘break in speeds’. Why is there always someone out there delivering unasked-for advice??
To the guy who chastised you for your highway speeds on a new truck: Your response had nothing to do with the message of the sender: the joy of driving a new vehicle to wonderful adventures.
Thanks for the trip report. Positive and encouraging!

Honest question since my maverick is scheduled to arrive in a couple of weeks and will be my first brand new car. What is considered high speed for breaking in a car?

Wouldn't it matter more how you are driving it? I could be wrong but wouldn’t you be more likely to cause damage flooring it at every green light up to the speed limit versus gradually cruising on up to 70-80 mph on the highway?

Also thanks for sharing those moonlander campers look so cool!

Some “old guys” just look for things to whine about and search for them.
Think of what some might call, a miserable mother-in-law. (I loved my M-I-L. sorry for stereotyping)

I’ll never understand “some people”.
They could win a $500,000,000.°° dollar lottery, and think this:
‘Why me?!!!? All these taxes I have to pay!”
Just say he’s right and ignore him 😉

Regarding the break-in comments:
The O.P. was driving HIS truck that he used HIS money to buy. He sounds like an intelligent person. How he drives it is HIS business
As an aside, I wonder what would be worse:
Driving 45 at high rpm’s
Or
Driving 70 at lower rpm’s
Adjust the numbers as needed. But I think most will get the concept
I’m not sure about “some people” though

LMAO

Ford themselves are very vague on this. My thought since Texas has a speed limit of 85 mph, that up to that would be considered normal to a court. And would probably have to be over 90mph, for them to consider it as high speed by any sense. But everyone's opinion will differ.

We can only hope that if you got a speeding ticket, the judge wouldn’t look into if you were, or weren’t, speeding during your break in period 🤞
He/she could track your plates to get your VIN, contact Ford and try to somehow void your warranty. Problems, problems!

All stupid comments about break in period aside, loved the pics and porcupine pics/video especially! I'm curious about that camper. What does the inside look like? Does it have A/C? What is the weight and approximate price? Is it easy to take on and off? I'm intrigued by pickup box campers, but the full-sized ones are so expensive and heavy.

I’ve travelled a lot.
Sometimes I need to remind myself just how beautiful it is here at home.
Great pictures! Thanks

#1 Congratz on your 1st new vehicle. That’s exciting!!
I am not a mechanic, but I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I understand it this way: Your car doesn’t know how fast you’re going, but it knows how the engine is revving. ADJUST these numbers, I’m only using them as an example.
Let’s say you’re “winding it” and going 30MPH vs. the engine running at low rpm’s and going 70MPH. In that example I think the 30MPH driving would be worse.
Again, I’m not a mechanic, but that always made sense to me.
As I said, I think you “get” it. You don’t need to baby it BUT….
Don’t beat the Hell out of it.
Change the oil with a good quality synthetic every 5,000 miles and you should be happy for a long time.

Congratulations :)

No AC in this unit, hey do sell an optional heater. Many different window options. They weigh about 235-250 for the Maverick depending on options. Very lightweight and strong. You sleep width wise. These start at $5,500, which isn't bad at all considering a simple cap is $4,000, and this is way bigger. Below is one on a R1T which is the same size bed as the Maverick. Also an interior shot of one that is a bit longer.

I know you will say breaking-in a vehicle doesn't matter but the Owner's Manual specifies:

Your vehicle requires a break-in period. For the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km), avoid driving at high speeds, heavy braking, aggressive shifting or using your vehicle to tow.

So if your engine or transmission develops problems later on ask yourself why you didn't follow the "required" break-in.
Twice I have “spun the wheel of fate” accidentally and thought “this will come back to haunt me “
