Going on a 3-4 days trip this week. I did a 450 mile day last fall and had no ill effects. Hoping for the same this week. Lovin" my Hybrid.

(Btw, admin, I HATE it when you move a relevant post like this to a section that gets little attention. If I wanted it in TRIPS I would have put it there. It's not about the trip, it's about how great of a roadtrip vehicle the Maverick is)

I made a quick trip from northern Indiana where I live out to McMinnville, Oregon and back... 2.270 miles each way. The destination was the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. I left Tuesday morning at 9am EDT and returned home one week later on Tuesday at 6:45pm EDT. I averaged 31.8 mpg driving 73-83mph. Mileage numbers were confirmed on the way out, which showed that the trip computer is highly accurate.

Maverick Evergreen 1.png

The driving portion was less than 48 hours out, and less than 48 hours coming back, so I actually covered 4,540 miles in a little under 4 days total. Stopping is stripped down to as little as possible to fuel up and use a real toilet instead of a bottle like I do most of the trip. I sleep for 4 hours laying down in the back seat, and then get rolling again. I do all the eating while moving. I also had the bed of the truck full of gear for some video work, including 120 pounds of sand bags for light stands.

My AWD XLT 2.0 Ecoboost with 4K towing didn't miss a beat the entire trip. This is the most intense road trip I've done, but I have done trips to Reno before like this when I had an Chevy HHR Panel. The HHR always did really well, and was oddly comfortable for long distances, but Maverick was perfectly comfortable, even better than the HHR was... the Maverick is truly the best overall vehicle I've ever had. And I'm 62, I've had quite a few cars/trucks over the years.

What I'm trying to say is that I love my Maverick even more at 30,000 miles than I did when I first got it new!
Just turned 4500 in one year, but LOVE it the same and enjoyed your story.

We recently did a 2500 mile road trip in our Maverick to San Antonio and back. Even my Wife had to admit that it is comfortable for a long haul!! I normally don’t drive more than 3 hours at a stretch but coming back I pushed that out to 6 hours! Louisiana needs more rest areas!!

I agree with you- this is not a "Trip" post, it's an endurance post (yours and the truck). That is pretty fantastic MPG for the turbo. No I have to wonder how the Hybrid (like mine) would do.

In the motorcycle world you just did an "Ironbutt Ride", actually four of them.

Curious how you slept in the back seat...door(s) open?
I'm sure the "Spruce Goose" was amazing.

Got my PL in a 1946 Taildragger...currently waiting for a rebuild...they all must be yellow. For those not aware, everything is controlled by pullies and cables.

Controlled by pullies and cables is correct except for the starter...that would be the "Armstrong Starter!" I have some experience with the Armstrong Starter myself.

Sounds like a great trip, and even better you were relatively comfy the entire time. How was the space museum? Went down to the one in Houston but haven't heard of Evergreeen before.

Glad to hear your "quick" trip of 4500 miles west went well for you. I'm planning a trip out to Henderson, NV over Thanksgiving week to see my son and his wife. I have a week, so time is not so constrained. Just turned 3000 miles after 5 1/2 months of ownership. So far everything is great, so I hope it stays that way ;)
