Hello: I've seen several posts stating my Maverick Hybrid got 45 MPG, 57 MPG and more. They back them up with pictures of their dash. The only way to have your REAL MPG is by filling up your tank and filling it up again, and doing the math with your total mileage. Anyone can post a picture of their dash for a short trip and have it show 40, 50, and more MPG. I can drive around my neighborhood, never going over 30 MPH, trying my best to stay on electric power and show a bogus dash picture. I've owned hybrids for 15 years. I can post a picture of my PriusV, going down hill and it says my MPG is 99 MPG. If you want to give an honest MPG value, give us a gas tank refill, do the math with your total miles driven and then state what kind of MPG you are getting. Don't go posting a 30 or 60 mile trip and post a picture. I just don't want some people thinking their hybrids are living up to standards.

I somewhat agree with you. I have a 22 Hybrid XLT. I have averaged about 36MPG over the 22K+ miles that I've driven it. Longer highway trips are closer to 33MPG (I drive between 75-80 MPH with ECO Mode on and cruise set) and my daily commutes put me closer to 38MPG most of the time. Obviously colder months with morning warmups drop that number to 34-36. So unless you are hyper-miling 100% of the time or your drive is downhill both ways, you're not averaging 45-50MPG in any real world scenario. I could see maybe if you live in a very hilly area and can feather the pedal once up to speed, you might be getting 43ish but come on. I get 999MPG if I back it up in the driveway a few feet and shut it off hahaha Doesn't mean that's my average.

So, just out of curiosity what is your mpg. I wholeheartedly agree with the method as the only accepted way for accurate mpg. I'm getting an eco so it won't apply to me - I'm expecting mid 20's since I'd rather get there and then relax lol.

And why exactly don't you want:

"I just don't want some people thinking their hybrids are living up to standards" .

Because it's true and repeatable? LOLLLLL

No, actually my 2 Hybrid Mavericks have far exceeded the advertised ratings (especially highway) . No tricks, no magic. Multiple ~1000 mile fishing trips to the same hotel, mostly MPH is 75-80 (PA turnpike). Average on the trips is constantly 40+

It is what it is....

You must be posting about me. Challenge accepted. I'll post my numbers when I fill up and hopefully they are better than I expect. The math will tell.

Might be awhile though as I still have a bit better than 1/4 better of a tank to go.

Your right, my pics are probably over optimistic but it is my commute. What can I say? At any rate I'm going to make an estimate now as I won't be able to check back for a week or two. Providing that the fuel gauge is accurate and I'm currently at 1/4 with 445 miles thus far and I'll say it's 4 gallons per quarter tank (should be less) then I would have went through 12 gallons in 445 miles. That would be an average of 37.08. It should end up being better than that.

EDIT:
First tank fill at 661.7 miles and 14.42 gallons comes to 45.88 MPG. Not quite sure how I was able to put in 14.42 gallons in a 13 something tank with approximately 20 miles to go but whatever. I won't be stopping there again. I estimate 330 miles out of those 660 were highway at anywhere from 45 to 60 miles per hour.

Second fill with 371.4 miles and 8.14 gallons comes to 45.62 MPG. This, except for passing through small towns, was almost all highway at 60 to 65 miles per hour. Rarely touched 70.
Count me impressed.

Truly YMMV ...

It's the interwebs and many folks exaggerate things for reasons unknown.
This is nothing new; however, what if the values posted are real and just seem too good to be true?

Don't stress .... it's not exact science and we all don't have the same
commute or driving style/habbits.

Unless your MPGs stray far from EPA estimates, keep on truckin'.

I have 2 Mavericks . A 22 &23both Hybrids My 22 has always got 38 to 42 MPG city and highway. My 23. only has 800 miles on it but I drove it from the middle of Kansas to West Tennessee all highway . Little under 690 miles and got 37 MPG . Just my opinion but I believe that 40. Plus MPG Is a good honest figure. 🤔👻

I did a calculation with my second tankfull. I found the truck gauge to be generous by a couple of %. But, error could be that's off. Still, I'll take the truck calculation to be in the ballpark over time. I'm gentle on the throttle and brakes and getting 45+ mpg's which I'm pretty confident with. Seems to jive.

I know what MPG I'm getting after a couple months of driving not the down hill or even one tank.
Day in day out, good weather/bad, remote start, in a hurry/not.
Anything else is what I can get not what I'm getting.

I agree completely with the OP about the bogus short trip readouts.
They are stupid, waste our time, and insult our intelligence.

That being said, I get great mpgs in my hybrid.
This picture is actually meaningful.
Put up or shut up.

How? It shows you still have 595 miles to empty, doesn't it?

I'd think ones with a tank closer to empty, that show actual miles traveled on that tank, would be more representative.
