In fairness, that's not an OBDLink EX. It might work, but it's not the same as what's in this thread. Might as well compare to one you can get for $1.99 on Alibaba.

That one has a manual switch between HS CAN and the MS CAN. The OBDLink EX has a software switch between HS and MS and is one of two scanners officially recommended by FORScan.

I'm all for cheaper, but I don't believe the two are functionally identical.

OBDLINK EX does automatic datalink baud switching:
* Electronic MS-CAN/HS-CAN switch allows FORScan to access all CAN buses simultaneously and enables advanced functions not possible with “toggle switch” adapters
* Maximum throughput: up to 20 times faster than “toggle switch” adapters

Also, there is a benefit of strength-in-numbers with the OBDLINK EX as compatibility issues are typically more quickly resolved on higher volume products.
