Happy with how this came out for $30 shipped from eBay 😊. Picked up some matching orange stitching too. Link here if you’re interested in the kit.

Steps:
1. Disconnect battery
2. Remove the steering airbag
3. Remove steering wheel controls
4. Stitch the wrap and place tape as you go

Very nicely done. I really want to try but the airbag removal scares me. Great job!
Mine is scheduled to come with a "Leather Wrapped Steering Wheel" but their definition and a users can be different. I have to echo these sentiments--removing the airbag would scare me.

I did a leather wrap recently with a $17 kit from Amazon on my 1969 Mercedes (plastic steering wheel) and have to agree that removing the steering wheel makes the job so much easier. I used a two needle "baseball stitch".

I'm enjoying see all the nice little upgrades and touches Maverick owners are doing. One of the reasons why I joined here!

If you have the heated steering wheel, have you checked to see if you can still feel the heat after installing this?
Unfortunately I do not have a heated wheel, but the cover is perforated so my guess is you would still be able to feel some heat.

There’s just something so nice about working on your own car and really making it your own 😊. I’d be interested in seeing your wrap job if you want to post it!

Looks good. My wife is afraid to take apart the wheel though. We will see, because she complains about it being slippery. I think it's just right after a McDonalds run. But I'm a fluid driver who doesn't have to think much where things are to drive.

Here you go! Found the project much easier with the steering wheel out of the car. The zip ties allowed me to not worry about keeping the threads tight.

Your reply reminded me of the time I replaced the clock spring on my mustang. If I remember correctly you had to leave it disconnected for some predetermined length of time so that the capacitor could completely drain before working on it. I think I doubled the recommended time before starting.

Mavericks do not come standard with a heated steering wheel or a leather wrapped steering wheel unless you order the Lariat. At time of order you have to select the Luxury Package on the XLT trim to get the heated and leather wrapped steering wheel. XL trim level does not have the option for a heated or leather wrapped steering wheel.
