I've had both on my Maverick and I think they synthetic leather feels much better than the regular leather. I wound up giving the real leather wheel to my father and installed it in his truck.
I have a strange feeling that your dad is very happy to have the real leather wrapped steering wheel. It’s an old-school kind of thing 😂
But I have to admit the pseudo leather covering is not that bad. At least it’s not slippery like some steering wheels have felt in the past.

i have a aftermarket Ford logo steering wheel cover and what ive observed is that the steering wheel still heats up, but....it takes considerably longer to work its way thru the cover to your hands. it's not that big a deal for me but your mileage may vary.
I like a thick steering wheel and I have the heated steering wheel which I covered with a thicker cover for the warm months when I won't be using the heater. I will store the cover under the back seat when it gets cold and put it back on next spring.

Looks great! I put a Nappa Leather slip on cover on mine. It also makes the wheel thicker but I like the grip better than not having it. Easier on my arthritic hands😊
Link to the Napa cover?

Sorry, I don’t have a link but go to Amazon and search for Napa leather steering wheel covers. I found one for around $30. Very good quality. Took some effort to put it on but worth the effort. Stays in place with no issues.

Last winter I like a lot of others would run the seat and wheel heaters and not turn cabin heat on until temp got below 42°F, maybe 45°F. Some were reporting better mpg by not using cabin heat as much.
