21.613 months actually. Or 1.8 years. Or 93.857 weeks. Or 657 days. 15,768 hours. Or 946,080 minutes. Or 56,764,800 seconds....

1 year, 9 months, and 18 days after I first placed a Maverick order it took a little less than a 3 mile test drive to my house, and my wife driving it around the block once to determine we loved it and we wanted it - but would it make sense financially?

TL;DR - 21.5 months. Fell back in love with the Maverick after a 4 mile test drive. JUSTIN ELLIS AND GERMAIN FORD (COLUMBUS, OH) ARE THE BEST FORD DEALER IN THE MIDWEST. I brought my Maverick Tremor home today.

Placed an order on October 13, 2021 for an XL Hybrid. We figured 2-3 months. 5 months on the high end. 8 days later Justin called me at said he had an EB XL AWD that I could have at MSRP if I wanted it.

That is the only time I had ever sat in or drove a Maverick. Foolishly I declined it as I wanted a Hybrid and was dead set on getting one. Foolish. STUPID me. My son is 4 here.

The Deal

Ordered through Justin Ellis at Germain Ford in Columbus, OH. Over the last 21.5 months I have text Justin hundreds of times regarding my Maverick and Bronco orders. Justin delivered a Base Sasquatch Bronco to me at MSRP early in 2022.

I've also never put a deposit down on any order, and he is as knowledgeable of a salesman not named Tim Bartz.

Sticker on my Maverick was 35,280 but I had $480 in price protection plus X-Plan (every Germain Maverick ordered got hosed on COVP status for 22 to 23 change over).

I was trading in a 2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range with 14k miles and a rock chipped windshield. Not sure if you've paid attention lately - but the value of the Model 3 has taken one of the biggest shits in automotive history.

Before going in and seeing it - I told myself I would not spend more than $2,000 total to make the switch.

With my discounts the Maverick initially came to $34k and they told me they would give me $34k for the Model 3. Then they did some black magic trickery and hooked up another $2,700 in discount/incentives on the Maverick and cut me a check for $2,710.

They did this knowing that I would have likely purchased the Maverick if I could have walked out without writing a check

Effectively my Maverick cost $31,300 - which is simply insane.

The TREMOR

My son is my best friend. He's 6 now in the photo today. He loves cars and he accompanies me to the dealer every time we go to "Ford". They know him there.

He loved the Model 3 and I wouldn't have made the deal without his approval - but like me he fell back in love all the same and parting ways was easy enough.

IMG_4678.jpg

THE GOOD

  • Ride Quality. Really enjoyed the XL Maverick we drove in 2021. The Tremor takes it to an entirely different level. Where the Model 3 was so unforgivingly stiff and punishing (but you got go kart handling) the Tremor soaks up pot holes and road imperfections with minimal suspension or tire thumping. I did bring PSI down to 33 all around.
    • A sub point to ride quality is the seat comfort quality but it comes with a major caveat below
    • Falkens are meaty and aggressive without being too loud. I think they are likely a big contributor to the ride quality
  • Initial quality (fit and finish). Had some really big issues with my Bronco so I spent a lot of time looking my Maverick over. It's well built from what I can tell. I found zero rust (I know it's coming) Furthermore - interior quality surprised me (again) where I think it might be better than the Bronco and really is just a step below the Tesla as far as touch materials and light years ahead of it with the creaks and rattles.
  • Under seat storage. So much stuff was able to fit down in there. Trauma + first aid kid, multiple bow saws, hammock, straps, tarp, ground tarps, emergency blankets, hatchet, hiking poles, helinox ground chair, folding table, and the list goes on.
  • Headlights are surprisingly bright. I was afraid that I would not be happy because the M3s were excellent. These will do just fine
  • Never thought I would use the InteliKey Pad and thought it was crazy how big of a deal people made about it.
    • Went from the dealer to my disc golf league and the disgusting physical key I will forever despise never left the Mav and the keypad is great!
IMG_4680.jpg

THE MEH
  • The Physical Key & Fob. Will bug me forever and ever and ever
  • I thought that XLT Lux package came with dual zone climate, but it is just a single zone auto climate which is fine for a truck I guess but it's definitely not dual zone. Also when in "auto" mode I shouldn't have to tell it to turn on the A/C to achieve a desired temp.
  • When I drove the XL EB I was surprised at how peppy it felt. The 2.0EB/8spd drivetrain combo is smooth but I don't find it powerful. That being said, I haven't leaned into the throttle more than 50% yet however it doesn't have that visceral pull or feel of the 2.3EB/10spd that my bronco had - even if the Maverick is quicker.
    • Hard to hear the turbo spool at all
    • Power is linear and 35 comes pretty quick and again - smoothly - but it doesn't feel powerful to me
    • A 2.3 in this thing would have made it SO much fun
  • Hard to argue with "free" upgraded all weather mats but they leave a bit to be desired. I don't want to splash down for better ones because these are, adequate - but I likely will
  • Engine block heater - is legit just zip tied to a tube of the radiator and you have to open the hood to use it
    • When added to the new Chevy Colorado they put the plug into the grill with a weather seal and a connector you use on your extension cord. This is the way.
THE UNACCEPTABLE
  • I have the power seat and @Shay has pointed out numerous times that front seat height adjustment is hinged however he was always reviewing an XL or the XLT without the lux package. I would have never thought the power seat would be hinged but it is, and that to me is unaccpetable
    • I LOVE the way I fit in almost all Fords. I find them comfortable and the Maverick is no different but I would love to be able to adjust the front of the bottom cushion downward without having to pitch forward and raise the seat up. I could see it being an issue on longer road trips where the front of the bottom seat cushion is pushing on your hammys.

SUMMARY

We'll see how the next few weeks go getting it broken in but I am so happy. Was it worth 21.5 months? Hell no, nothing is. However if I held those 21.5 months against the Tremor I would have never bought it. All is good. Water under the bridge.

@Ford Motor Company - I thank you in advance for the incoming congrats. I stayed pumped!
I waited 18 months for mine!

I ordered my XLT Lux Hybrid 3 days before you. Got it at the end of January 23. Yikes.
We do love it.
Alls well ends well - I absolutely love my Tremor.

I'm still waiting for my Sept 16 2022 order of a stock XLT Hybrid. The Mullinax Ford dealership in Vero Beach FL. Just got 5 Mavericks in they are selling. All ecoboost except one Lariat Hybrid. All priced well above msrp. They want $40,000 for the Lariat Hybrid, but it's loaded. I really want my Hybrid but if I could get a deal on one of the ecoboost would consider it.

Was very much like you and wouldn't budge on the hybrid for a long time. Definitely the fuel economy on the Tremor is a tough pill to swallow (I'm currently averaging 22.5mpg on first tank) but when I look at what that means to my bottom line annually it really isn't a massive hit, and so far the Tremor's ride indicates it will be well worth it.

I waited 16 months for mine. 501 days. I think generally the more equipment you order on the truck the longer it takes. I decided to forgo a few options in the interest of speeding things along (as speedy at 16 months can be anyway). I am quite happy with the truck so far.

Congratulations, sorry about that wait Ford needs to do better for sure. I am probably one of the few that found one after some dummy (thank God for this guy) said he didn't want it after it showed up to the dealer. I happened to be the first guy the next morning looking for a new car, was going to get a bronco sport but saw this sitting there

Looks great!!

This past weekend I clay barred, ceramic coated, and waxed my Tremor. First vehicle I've done the clay bar to in probably 20 years. I've always driven dark gray vehicles and didn't see the need to get any imperfections out.

Overall, I was super impressed with the Avalanche Gray paint. I found about a half dozen little black specks (like pepper) along the doors and rear quarter panels that came out with a flew glides of the clay bar.

The hood was a different story (and that makes sense being one of the largest surfaces areas) where I found more than a dozen little specs and also looked like a thumb sized smudge in the center of the hood that also mostly came out.

I found one scratch above the passenger door (never got in the passenger side when buying it) that went through the paint (It is VERY thin paint) so I will need a touch up pen.

Overall still pretty impressed with Ford and the paint job on the Maverick. Yes, it is thin but it was relatively clean.

The ceramic coating and wax was totally necessary. Paint went from feeling inconsistent/patchy and a little rough to silky smooth.

Yes it looks very nice I definitely agree with you ceramic coating helps with this thin paint, plus the shine you get is amazing, like colored glass.

What gets me is the ignorant stupidity of Chevrolet not to get their Montana small pickup in the American market. They only sell them in south America. I would buy one in a heartbeat if available. 23,000 MSRP. And they look sharp. Chevrolet doesn't want the business and void open now for these type trucks ? And the Toyota Stout. What's their holdup ? It just blows my my the stupidity of these companies, Ford included !

Like I said, what in the world is GM waiting for. Get these up to U.S. standards. https://gmauthority.com/blog/2022/12/here-is-the-all-new-2023-chevy-montana-pickup/amp/

Congrats! Definitely worth the wait.
