The main problem with Tacos is the fact that not all of them are 4x4, yet most of them look like they are 4x4. It gives too many the perception that they are all soooo awesome.
I live down a decently hardcore driveway, some vehicles like my 96 Bronco or a 2dr Jeep will make it up in 2wd with a little wheelspin. But to this date no 2wd only vehicle has made it up our hill. My mother-in law lives in the valley with us, and she is always meeting new people that come and help here with her projects or have dinner or what have you. Last night she had some young 30ish year old over for a garden project and a meal. He came down in a 10 year old Taco with black bedliner paint, it was on basic ATs and looked the part of a 4x4. So late around 9pm I heard him leave up the driveway. Sounded a little fast, but whatever. About 15 min later I hear something else, more faint. I got Josi to turn down the TV and by the time she did the sound was fading. I thought it must have been a helicopter going out to Hana. Well another 15 minutes goes by and mother-in-law rings the pants alarm, and says "can Shane come out for a minute". I knew what was happening. I got out there, with pants on, couldnt find my flash light so I went in the dark. When I got to her I heard him say something like "I know, it looks like a 4 by...". So just say need a pull? And head over to my Comanche to get my easiest strap and shackle. I get him hooked up to the Bronco since its the heaviest and I tow him up the hill. While doing all this he tells me how he really thought he could make it but just got soo close.
Thats the problem, they are just soo close...
By the way my mother-in-law drives a AWD Ecosport that lifts a tire when going up the driveway. Still does it with ease.
PreRunner Taco= 0
Also this is the 3rd time I have towed a 2wd Taco up the hill that thought it was fine.
This is the driveway after a big rain. I used our ZJ for a lil "cleaning the ruts"!
