Can't default to ECO mode? What does ECO even do for an ecoboost?

Found out I can't default to ECO mode. Every time I start the engine it's in normal mode. I have to press the big button a few times to get to ECO.
A nuisance! But what does ECO even do? I can't find any difference in terms of mileage between ECO and Normal driving modes.
I guess it makes sense for the hybrid owners, where in ECo mode the battery can be more efficiently used.
But for an ecoboost, I can't think of anything that may help. Maybe a higher gear when cruising? Wonder how much gas that will save.

Some swear up and down they love it and it helps. Others (like me) think it's pointless and you can get the same MPG in normal mode. Never used it in the Hybrid Escape I had and still got at least a 40MPG average then I added it and tested it in the EB Maverick and it was awful. I found myself having to give it more throttle constantly to maintain a speed. One drive and that was all it took for me to remove it.

I like eco because it slows down the response time of pressing down the pedal and reminds me I dont have to juice it at every light which in turn saves me gas. You can buy modules that default the eco mode (or any mode) for ya

Throttle mapping, and more aggressive up shifting is typically how the drive modes differ. ECO would have a more gentler throttle response, and not take the engine as close to the red line before shifting gear. It likely requires more pressure to achieve the same level of acceleration as normal, and so on. I've only had two vehicles with drive modes, and it makes so little difference I always just left them on normal.

Exactly. Especially when the 8 speed shifts under 2 grand for each gear unless you floor it.

If you want eco, buy a hybrid. If you want Preformace buy a 2.0 turbo. I never considered a hybrid. Yeah I'm one of THOSE guys

I hated eco mode in the transit connect work van. Like said I had to floor it all the time. It was a company van so i didn't research it much. But i finally learned how to shut the leaf off in the van. Because I hate having dash light warning/info lights on. Low and behold that's when i got a little snap back in the peddle.

I like it. Makes no difference while in forward motion but saves you from breaking when slowing for something

It definitely does make acceleration slower on hybrid. But this thread is about Ecopoot.

It reminds me of my former father-in-law driving his '59 El Camino 3 speed. He had it in 3rd gear by 15 mph.

Eco mode on a Maverick 2.0 ecoboost also closes the intercooler active grille shutter. This normally is done automatically when cruising at highway speeds. I haven't gotten out of the truck to look but in Normal drive mode, it should re-open the shutters if you pass or do any other driving that is unsuitable for having the intercooler shutters closed.

I do about 25k miles a year, a lot of it for work on 2 lane or interstate highways. I have tried eco mode and found no gain at 70+. I don't drive many urban miles , but to me eco mode was very annoying with the delayed throttle response... so I have never done both the miles and time to really see if it helps in town.
