What kind of MPG are you seeing with your setup?

I really like the wheel/tire setup you have going but I was wondering what the MPG is for that size & type of tire.

I might go with a BFG Trail Terrain instead of the KO2s

My area and daily driving is not kind on MPGs. I'm currently at 25/26 average. Unfortunately, I don't have a comparison for the stock mileage but as I drove home I got 30 all highway on majority slower roads in a different state that was also much flatter. So that's best case stock for me. The first two tanks I had I dumped fuel cleaners in and gave it the beans quite a bit with A LOT of idle time. Like, probably a quarter tank or more idle time. Then I got the KO2's. I did see 28 on the trip back from getting them and that route is the most forgiving I ever take. That was over 130 miles. My daily commute into town though is all hills and the trip in barely offsets the trip out which is majority incline and into the wind. Plus, the KO2s being the heaviest and tallest setup in the 65R17 category doesn't help. It probably safe to say the average would be maybe 2 MPG loss? But again, my commute sucks and I opt for the throttle a bit more than I should due to the hills.

If you are partial to the BFGs but have never tried the Wildpeaks, I'd recommend them instead. They really are a much better tire and I think the Wildpeak Trails have a better tread depth too than the BFG Trails. I've already felt more slippage on the KO2s than I have with any of the Wildpeaks and that was just on service roads. I'm skeptical of what wetter winter weather (say that 3 times fast lol) will bring. The grip is better on the Wildpeaks due to the tread pattern but the KO2's have a better sidewall for mud, ruts and rocks.

But if your main concern is MPG's, the Trails in either brand are right for you and I'd also recommend sticking with 235/65R17's (assuming your stock wheel is 17").

My advice is to keep it simple. Don't sacrifice if you don't need it. I have a bad habit of doing it on all my trucks (as you can see on the previous Tacoma). I may end up going for a 235/65R17 Wildpeak Trail once the KO2's are done for. Undecided currently. The loss in MPG's has never bothered me but after having so many different setups, I think I'll lean towards practicality next. I did enjoy the Trails on the Escape, but I wouldn't use them in snow/ice ever again and since I'll be running dedicated snows anyways, I see no reason to go uber-beefy on the Maverick. Even if I was overlanding, the Trails are likely enough for the Maverick all around. Had I gone with the AT3W's I'd probably run them year round like I did on my Taco.

Just my two cents. In my Escape Hybrid I got a max of 40 MPGs during summer and about 36 during winter... And that's me trying hard lol. Even Maverick Hybrid owners have me beat on MPGs and the Escapes should be much better. Fuelly averages and forum reporters have always been better than mine. But when in doubt, go the route of less revolutions per mile with as much tread depth as you can get and try to keep the weight down. In other words: 235/65R17 Wildpeaks Trails for the win.

Another thing to keep in mind is if you are looking through pics on this forum at the Mavericks that come with Wildpeak's, the majority of them won't represent what the actual Trails consumers can buy. FORD uses a nerfed version of the AT3W's that are similar to the Trails because the trails were not officially released by Falken until after the Maverick started using their tires. So my guess is that FORD struck a deal with Falken to make them a "trail version" of the AT3W's that gets better EPA ratings than the consumer AT3W's and instead of renaming them the trails, they gave FORD a one off version of those tires. You cannot buy the Wildpeaks that come on stock Mavericks from anywhere other than on the stock Mavericks (or someone selling them from their stock Maverick). So go by what the pics on something like @Discount Tire look like for the Wildpeak Trails and AT3W's. Kind of odd, but there is not a whole lot of information on this forum about it and most people will confuse all variants of the Wildpeaks anyways, so just wanted to clarify.

Gooodyear also made a similar move with Toyota and GM... not that it matters, but it's a thing lol.

Well, pretty annoying that I ordered the correct size as specified by AlphaEquipt for the hub center caps and they are too small. AE specified with that part number they were 2.5" so I pulled the trigger on the same size for the FORD ones and it looks like I'll need to step it up to a bigger size if I can even find them, and the AE hub center caps have the shortest lip to grab I have ever seen, so still no guarantee. I may just JB Weld if these other ones don't fit.

Grr... it just can't be simple.

I'm curious if anyone has a solution or can find a slightly larger version? Maybe 68mm? They would have to be flat black with the blue oval and all I could find was 66mm. So I'm considering just JB Welding them in place. I suspect the only reason they don't actually work is because the difference in the inner clip size.

*Edit
Took some measurements and it appears that listing on the hub center caps was for 2.5" exterior... of course, I didn't think about it but I need to find some that show the inner diameter instead.

Here are the AlphaEquipt ones:

Ford Maverick Montana's Maverick - '22 Lariat Lux FX4 4K EB 20230718_032628

Ford Maverick Montana's Maverick - '22 Lariat Lux FX4 4K EB 20230718_032654

Here are the ones I ordered:

Ford Maverick Montana's Maverick - '22 Lariat Lux FX4 4K EB 20230718_032447

Ford Maverick Montana's Maverick - '22 Lariat Lux FX4 4K EB 20230718_032524

So at least now I have the measurements I need, which I should have done first. I may just order some inserts to place inside the AE ones if I can't find some matte black ones with the blue oval that show the inner diameter measurements as well as the outers.

I really want this to happen lol. I did this with my previous Subaru and it looked really good:

Confirmed today that a full size 245/65R17 does fit as a spare with plenty of room. However... ran into an issue and thought I had broken the housing for the tool that drops the spare. Tightening the full size I had the complex design that needs a degree to figure out how to piece it through the wheel in order all messed up and it pulled too much on the guide to the part you hook into. Also, why can't they just make the damn tool 1/4th or 3/8's size. It just has to be some proprietary part between those two so you can't fit your own tools on it. Smh.
If it's not too much to ask, would you be able to take a picture of your full size 245/65R17 spare while mounted in the spare wheel slot? I'm trying to gauge if a 245/60R18 will fit underneath as a full size spare on my Hybrid model. It wouldn't surprise me if the Ecoboost has a lot more room under there, but I want to see how much clearance there is between your tire when mounted and those jagged "teeth" welded into the frame that's meant to catch the tire in the event of a rear collision incident. Also the amount of clearance between the rear of the spare tire and the back of the tow hitch. I've read that is also another possible interference point for a larger spare wheel mounted underneath.

lol I was just thinking the same. Added to the cart but saved for later. I've had them on 2 previous vehicles and tbh, I hate messing with the hood. But I'll get them eventually.

*Edit... nope. Too many people reporting issues because of them. I'm good. Hard pass on the hood struts for this vehicle. I didn't like having to install them on the previous Tacoma due to needing to unbolt both hood bolts and try to maneuver stuff in place. I do like them, but it's not something I'll likely install unless it only requires the removal of one bolt and not on the Maverick, since it screws with the already too loose cable that releases the hood.
I agree on the hood struts. I've learned my lesson. You dont want to misalign the hood plus possibly cause damage.

Update since my last post:

Unfortunately, I could not make the correct wheel center caps for the AE wheels. Kinda bums me out. I went through the trouble of replacing the lug nuts with a chrome set that is 1.38" long and they fit perfectly. There is 1/4" left, so plenty of thread left. The ones Discount gave me were actually used and stuck out way too much for my liking. I also asked for the chrome ones and they gave me black ones. So, I got a refund from them and got my own for half the price. I can't believe I forgot to bring a set when I was getting my tires/wheels mounted. Discount charged $70 for the $40 set I got off Amazon. They also improperly balanced every single tire. I had to get them rebalanced at the local Les Schwab and thankfully, they did not charge me. This was my first not so great experience with Discount. Not sure what happened but given the fact their tires are about half the cost of anything at Les Schwab and many other places, I'm still going to buy from them in the future.

I was able to find a decal that is similar, but from the pics I've seen they are usually pretty glossy and grey, not so black, and it's due to the coating that goes over the decal.

Ford Maverick Montana's Maverick - '22 Lariat Lux FX4 4K EB Captur

Either way, I plan on making them work. They should fit right inside the AE wheel center caps and I'll just use JB Weld to hold them in place. Really looking forward to the contrast they provide.

I also got the rear brakes serviced and confirmed the Maverick will not go into brake service mode. So, it wasn't just me lol. It's unfortunate I'll have to do this the next time I need brakes. And of course, the dealer must have checked the tire pressure when I was in there because now I'm missing a valve stem cap. I cannot stress enough how much I HATE letting other people work on my vehicle. They also washed it because I forgot to tell them not to. They have like 50 signs around the service counter and one of them is to warn people that if they don't want their vehicle washed to inform them. Since I never go in there, I totally forgot to mention it. They should really make it a habit of asking. So I came out to a not dry vehicle that wasn't actually cleaned and got it dirtier than it went in then had to wash it again and get the water spots they left off. Not to mention, I had to pay an extra $100 to have this done on top of me supplying my own brake pads.

GRR!

Anyways, I plan on updating pics on the front page here soon once I get the emblems mounted and since I removed those front air dams.

So far I have only put one of my driving wheels under there to check. I will have a full size spare within the next couple weeks so I will gladly help you out. Your 18" is pretty much the exact same size so I'll make sure to get you some specific pics on how much room is left. I'm actually impressed with how much room is under the bed on these trucks.

I agree on the hood struts. I've learned my lesson. You dont want to misalign the hood plus possibly cause damage.
I'd do one if I could find a decent set that only used one hood bolt, but yea... Having done it on my Tacoma it was a PITA and I never felt like the hood was aligned properly after, even though I made sure it was. But the real reason is the report of people saying it just won't open after the fact and having to replace the cable. So I'll just stick with the normal setup.

Finalized my storage today.

I'm pretty organized and it seems like a lot, but there is plenty of room. The only thing I have left is some mats for the under seat storage and a 4 way divider for the center console - both of which I'm not certain I'll be keeping but I wanted to get them and try. Possibly updating the rear Husky Liners the previous owner had to the TuxMats I have up front. The rest I actually just finished organizing today for a final fit to everything. I'm still on the fence about a rear seat delete, but if I get a sub I'll likely have to do it to retain the setup I have in a similar way. I don't believe in wasted space and I like to be modular without the need for a bunch of Jeep style MOLLE crap mounted everywhere. The more organized you are, the more space it leaves you to play with.

Only took me a month to get it all totally sorted and I've never shared in great detail my "pack out" in the truck before, so here goes:

Rear overall:

Plenty of room for a couple grocery bags on the floor and plenty of room on the seat. I never store things on the passenger side or in the doors over there. Just my tool boxes. I keep the pad on the backseat for groceries and anything else that gets set there. I've considered buying a full seat cover but good ones are expensive and I just don't think I need one. I'm still toying with the idea of a rear seat removal. I still have the Husky Liners the first owner put in the backseat, but I didn't find them adequate for the fronts so I replaced with TuxMats

I use the drying towels quite often :ROFLMAO:

I have a crate type box I keep all my car wash stuff in and most times I don't even need it. 303 for the interior and quick heavy foam washes with light agitation occasionally, then the two drying towels after I run it through the touchless wash with the air dryer. I do use my own brush/mitt at the car wash too. Never trust those things even if I spray them off first.

But in all seriousness for the rest of it, I hope so too!

Still unsure if I want to replace those rear mats with the TuxMats or not just to match the fronts. Which reminds me, it's time to update the first page pics and get a better interior shot that includes the TuxMat's.

Went to wash the truck after my fishing trip and I must have ran over a big pile of poop somewhere after the fact. Poop literally splattered everywhere all down the right side of the truck. Mostly inside the wheel well and the mudflap, but omg... little particles on the hood, the roof, front and rear passenger side doors... Big ol pile ah poopie. :poop:

Didn't even bother trying to wipe any of it off, just took it to the car wash the next day and did it all over again. SMH. No idea where it was, never even saw it.

Damn prankster kids and their flaming bags. :ROFLMAO:

Nice load out! I am slowly building my tool set and supplies under the back seat. What kind of fire extinguisher do you have in the door? I currently have a bigger one rolling around on the floor behind my passenger seat, like the idea of having a couple smaller ones in the doors.

Got the flush 1.38" chrome lug nuts I should have gotten originally installed and the new FX4 logo. Updated the pics on the first page to reflect the current state. Still waiting on the FORD decals with the blue oval to go over the wheel center caps since I can't find any direct replacements in the size of the AE center caps. They are shipping from the UK, so it's going to be a couple weeks.

Link for the FX4 Logo (It is a matte individual letter version). I'm not too sure about it yet. I don't think it will hold up as well as a single decal would and I had no idea it was a matte finish. But the colors are right at least.

I also got a divider for the bottom of the center console:

Here is the link for that:

And some under seat storage mats:

I have no idea why I got the mats. I saw someone else post about them and thought "sure, why not". I like them. They are the same material as my TuxMats which is great. The pics make them look much cheaper than they actually are. Very well made.

Nice load out! I am slowly building my tool set and supplies under the back seat. What kind of fire extinguisher do you have in the door? I currently have a bigger one rolling around on the floor behind my passenger seat, like the idea of having a couple smaller ones in the doors.
I honestly have no idea but I've had it for a while. I definitely want a slightly bigger one. It does fit perfectly in that spot without rattling around which is nice.

How are you liking this thus far? Does it seem durable and like it will last a while?
