I ordered a 2023 Ford "Unicorn", aka a 2023 Maverick XL Hybrid with the basic tow hitch. For some reason, I didn't get scheduled. :ROFLMAO:

I am going to submit a new order on 7/17 or shortly thereafter; I will stick with the XL, but switch from the hybrid to the Ecoboost, in hopes of improving my chances.

What should I do regarding a tow hitch, given the "ditch the hitch" phrase that I have heard?

Is this something I could have installed by the dealer or aftermarket, once delivered? Or, is it best to include it on the order?

Am I crazy for not sticking with the hybrid? I assume that the discount that I would receive due to my 2023 hybrid model order, would not be 100% of the increase(?)

Even if I order, I will be watching what the competition has available.

For many, the hybrid is the only reason to buy this truck vs. a different small truck.

100% keep the hitch.
Royal PITA to try and finagle it later.

Keep the hitch. Keep the hybrid if it is important to you.
Ecoboost is a great choice if you drive average miles per year, desire the mechanical simplicity, the driving experience, towing capability.

I got the unicorn apparently. From what I heard it depends on dealership allocation.

If you still get unscheduled for your 2023 order, you mind as well keep everything the same for 2024 order. You will be prioritized within the dealer's allocation within the dealer's orders for 2024. And Ford will likely give you an incentive offer that will offset the price increase between going from 2023 -> 2024.

I added the hitch back when it left the Constraint items list about 6 weeks ago to My Hybrid XLT order. Then the very next week, I got Scheduled. So Keep the hitch

You will be prioritized as a rollover. Get what you want.
Ford said they would build all of the rollovers with a few rare exceptions. Your order is pretty straight forward as long as your dealer has their act together.

My 2023 XL cactus grey hybrid with hitch & Co-Pilot 360 order went in 20 Sep 22. A couple o days ago, my dealer said I could roll it over to a 2024 with or without changes, or cancel. I chose to order the 2024 without changes. He said there will be a price increase & Ford would offer incentives to offset. As far as build goes, he said my order will be prioritized among hybrid builds, whenever they happen. Don't know when that'll be. But I'm hanging in because the hybrid power train is important to me as is the tow hitch. Here's hoping...

Then there are those with the opposite happening. I dropped the hitch on my XL Hybrid CP360, and it got scheduled shortly afterward.

At this late date, though, I would keep the hitch and re-order on 17 July. If you have a clueless dealership, make very sure they reuse the order number from your '23 order, and they should not delete the orig. order from the system. Orders with a duplicate order # will be flagged and Ford will bump them to the front of the '24 builds. Ford (not the dealer) will delete the original order when appropriate, and you will get a special offer to offset the price increase of the '24 order.

I kept the hybrid and hitch. Scheduled for an 8/6 build.

I ordered a 22 XL hybrid that got rolled over to a 23 and eventually built in January this year. I had ordered with a hitch and a full size spare, but when it came in it had neither on it. Probably sped up the scheduling and delivery so I couldn't complain tool much. I bought the Ford hitch and trailer harness for around $400 and installed myself. There's some good instructions on the forum here but took me the better part of a day to mount and wire it. For $100 to order it pre-installed is a no brainer "IF" it's not a constraint now.
