I’m glad I got an Area 51 hybrid before they discontinued it. The new color is similar, but not as cool and it costs extra.
I'm surprised Ford got rid of Area 51 since it was the most popular color. Maybe they were tired of looking at it lol

My first car was a 1973 Maverick with a 302! Ran like a scared rabbit!
Yeah, the guy looked at my Maverick, walked up to me and said, "I had a Maverick long time ego and loved it. When did they come out with this one?" We've discussed it and that was fun...

As for the Maverick becoming iconic, it's easy to test early on. Do chicks dig the Maverick and it's easy to take them for a ride? No? Oh well, so much for becoming iconic... ;)

I could maybe see some of them becoming cult classics but certainly not iconic. Certain ones will become a big hit down the road with the third and fourth owners looking to make cheap HP. Specifically the ones with 2.0 turbo engine and certain options like AWD and maybe the FX4, Tremor, and 4K tow package becasue of the suspension and gearing. That all depends on if the aftermarket takes off though.

Maybe It is more epic right now. It filled the void the last 2011 ranger left. It’s creating a new mini truck category that somehow wasn’t there, but wanted to be. It will be iconic like the el Camino and Subaru brat, IMHO. Also Area 51 color. I picked it as the best match to me w/ lariat interior and resale if that happened.

If only I still had my 57 Chevy 2 dr Hardtop. I could sell that thing and well, at today's prices of everything, even that would not go that far, but maybe could buy another Maverick.

Wish ford would have named this the Courier. That was a good vehicle. Fortunately most people are too young to remember the original Maverick so they don’t equate the name with our trucks.

The old maverick had the bad reputation for being a cheap piece of junk. I am running across the original maverick owners who bought one when they first came out. Most have mentioned how shortly they owned it before trading it in for something better.

IF YOU OWNED AN OLD MAVERICK AND LOVED IT, GOOD FOR YOU!
Dont take this personally!

I had a friend who owned a slightly modified Grabber. It was a fast heap!
I started driving in 1981. 70's cars were quite plentiful in that time. Most guys sought a Camaro, Mustang, Chevelle, Cutlass 442, one of the Mopars, and so forth. A good humble choice was the Nova. The Maverick was down there with the Vega and Pinto in desirability. That said, some of us took what we could. Even with humble means, the Maverick wasn't high on the list.

How many remember the Gran Torino? It was a much cooler Ford from that era.

Perhaps if you got the first ever produced FWD equipped with the 4K tow pkg..... Then if it was also equipped with rarest combination of options, color, and never put any mileage on it.... Just maybe!

I'd rather make use of and enjoy my truck that I paid for now than have to lock it up most of the time for 30+ years just as a hedge it becomes an "investment".
It’s not an investment. It’s a depreciating asset.

Those were never manufactured. Ford put a hold on that option very quickly in mid summer of '21 right before production started. Those of us who ordered that option had to put in a new order and received a $2200 rebate because we had to switch to AWD to get the 4K tow package.

I’m just hoping in 8-10 years it doesn’t become an iconic POS.
Heck I hope it goes for more than 5 years before getting that reputation. :ROFLMAO: At the rate the recalls are coming in, I'm not hold my breath though.

Not for the same reason the Barracuda or the Chevelle are iconic lol.

It's affordable and practical in a disaster of a market.

I remember when the Mustang was introduced as an affordable sports car for the masses and quickly became a icon that has lasted to this day. The Maverick is quickly following it as an icon for trucks of which the other big mfg's will be trying to get in on the game like they did on the Mustang. I'd be really careful with some of the custom work on the early (22-23) years as some day they might be collector items if in the original condition. Just adding my 2 cents to the Maverick picture.
Yeah that's cool but I'm going to continue to drive my car. I'll just maintain it really well and people can admire a collection level car that gets used. Not one that just sits in the garage all day
