We ordered the Lariat Hybrid back in July. We decided yesterday that we wanted the higher towing capacity and called to change our order to the Lariat Ecoboost with AWD, 4k towing, and FX4 package. Our Dealer said they are struggling to obtain parts for the 4k towing package and aren't taking orders at this time. He assured me that the 4k towing package could be added at a later date. Has anyone heard about this shortage, and Is it possible to add this package at a later date? The reason we made the shift was so we can "legally" tow more. If it's not possible to add this later, then we have no reason for changing our order. Any thoughts are appreciated.

That doesn't sound right at all. As long as your truck hasn't started to be built you should be able to change the order. You certainly can't add the 4k package to the hybrid. The 4k package is only offered on the 2.0T AWD.

In addition, it can’t be added after the order is pulled and it cert can’t be added after it’s built. At least not at any kind of reasonable cost.

Yeah, that salesman doesn't know what he is talking about. At all.

That's what I was thinking. I couldn't for the life of me understand how that could be added at a later date. I'm not sure why when he put in the computer to update our order to the Ecoboost with AWD, 4k towing, and FX4 package that it flagged it and said the 4k tow package was not available. I guess I will go in tomorrow and try to figure this out...

Ford just dropped the 4k package from the front wheel drive Ecoboost. Maybe he didn't switch it to AWD.

I recommend that you reconsider the FX4. It will only gain you skid plates and drive modes. The bigger radiator etc are included in the 4K tow package and there is no difference in ride height. You spend more and possibly lose a little payload due to weight of skid plates etc. This is totally just my take on things but might be worth thinking about. :)

Some of the parts for the additional 4k and FX4 are probably the same and some things like the brake controller and 7 pin could be added later with an aftermarket one but the rear axle ratio is not the same so that is problematic. I think when he said you could add it later he was talking out his ass.

I looked at the updated order form and the AWD was on there. I'm going in tomorrow to see why the 4k package was being denied/delayed.

I agree. While a rear axle ratio can be changed, it would cost a lot more after the fact.

If they have already generated a VIN number, then No they can't change the order. If no VIN yet, then you should be able to make changes to your order.

I respect your opinion but I am definitely getting the FX4. Will I need it, maybe, but I would rather have it than not. Just my opinion. Get what you want, I did. It’s your Maverick, don’t have regrets after the fact…again my opinion

Our Maverick Lariat 2.0 awd with 4K tow, FX4, lariat lux, moonroof and full size spare is being built this week. Got a confirmation from Ford with window sticker, etc. So don’t know where the dealer is getting that the 4K tow package is back ordered.

I went down and talked to a competent person and they said that salesman was absolutely wrong about adding it on later. Here is what he said about the 4k Towing package. Ford does not have the parts to meet the demand so dealerships have been told new/updated orders can't include 4k towing. So only existing orders have that option. He did say that parts can come in and he would check it weekly to see if anything has changed and add it for me. Not too happy about that, but we can't wait a year to get this car. Fortunately the AWD FX4 addition increases the towing capacity from 2,000lbs to 3,200lbs.

Wish I could present evidence that the FX4 can tow more. I personally looked for that information, but couldn't find any. He looked up the information and relayed it to me. I'm assuming he gave me correct information, but it's hard to trust these people.
