Does anyone know what trailer hitch class the maverick has when upgraded to the 4k tow? I couldn't find the info on fords website. I got the 4k tow package because in the future I know I would like to buy a small 3,000-4,000 lb trailer. Now most 3,300 lb trailers I'm looking into have a tongue weight of roughly 400-480 lbs (not sure how or why). so a class 2 (which I'm sure the mavs without 4k have which is rated t tow 2,000 lbs) caps out at towing 3,500 lbs. does the 4K have a class 3 that is rated for 5,000 lbs and a tongue weight of 800? do I have the wrong information on the class numbers? would ford rate the class 2 safe for towing 4,000 lbs? can I assume they put a class 3 hitch on the 4k tow for legal reasons?

I'm not trying to push for a 5,000 lb trailer I understand that would be dangerous due to the weight of the tow vehicle but I'm curious if I need to be concerned with the tongue weight exceeding 400 lbs by an extra 50 to 80lbs when the trailer weight is under 4,000 lbs. Would exceeding my tongue wight but not the trailer weight mess up my frame? it sounds like the 4k tow takes more microchips which will cause my wait to be longer for a build date, and if I cant tow a decent sized trailer with it (separate shower from toilet, possible small bunk house with dinette) I suppose I wouldn't have much of a reason to keep that package.

Any information on this topic would be useful! thanks!

All the factory hitches are standard, 2-inch, Class 3. So, the hitch itself is capable of carrying more weight than the trucks are.

The tongue weight on a class 3 hitch is between 350 and 800 pounds. I believe the Maverick has a maximum tongue rating of 400 pounds.

IMO I would be concerned if the travel trailers you are interested in have tongue weights exceeding 400 pounds. Even if it's just by 50-80 pounds.

Here is a link to a pdf provided by Ford. It goes into more detail regarding towing capacity and tongue weights regarding the Maverick.

Weight distribution hitch. These are light trucks.

So to tow a 3,500 trailer, I don’t need a weight distribution hitch?

I am in the process of buying a Sunset Sunray 149. The dealer told me a weight distribution hitch is NOT recommended on any unibody.

I have the 4K tow package, but I won't be considering any trailers over maybe 3000lbs. You need some wiggle room for passengers weight and all your gear, water, food. Right now I'm leaning towards a hard side A frame pop-up in the 1700-2300lb range.

Buying a 4000 lb trailer for this truck seems like a bad idea.

Plus if you aren't at sea level you need to take the elevation tow deduction as well. Looking at those A/Liner hard sides as well-
